Thanks for the nice video! 8:02: Of course there are 4 controllers. On the top level you have 4 ports. 3 of them go into the next level and handle 4 USB connectors each. The 4th port of the top level controller goes directly to the 13th connector. So basically you have 3*4+1=13 ports.

I used one of these (Orico A3H13P2), for many years and it functioned well. However, today the power supply failed (12v 5A). The green light on the power supply was not on, and the USB HUB was not powered. I broke open the brick power supply and one of the two large capacitors was slightly domed. I found no other defects. I assume the domed capacitor was the cause for the failure. I replaced the power brick with another 12v 5A brick that I had on hand, and the hub functioned again.

Thank you for this video!! I've been shopping for a 10-16 port USB hub for my mac mini and every one on amazon has a few horror story reviews about extremely slow speeds. This video and your video about the Orico 10 port have helped me to feel comfortable with Orico and VLI chipsets. Most reviewers on KZbin manage to talk for 30 minutes about a USB hub without talking about speed or reliability. What else could possibly matter? I think we all know how to use one. Do you know anything about the VL817 chipset? I've read that its just a newer replacement for this VL812, but I haven't found any real reviews or comparisons.

I am thinking about giving the one that works perfectly away, so you might have a chance to win one in the near future ;) . Thanks!

Its nice looking, but practically speaking the newer 16 port orico with switches costs less now and seems to use less energy, the aluminum chonky one I have is always warm, the plastic one is mostly cool to the touch and even came with a bigger power supply. That being said the aluminum one is at least twice as heavy and much more premium feeling. 16 ports for $45 on amazon right now not too bad. Better to buy big once than daisy chaining small hubs which should work in theory but even if you respect the topology limits, often things just don't.

My computer does not support more than 7 ports. Is there any way to make all of the 13 ports to work?? Thanks for any answer

is it possible to modify the button in a way that the hub is always on and does not need to be switched on after it received power?

I thought the 10-port was overkill. I don't know what to think of this one. If you're going to keep the dodgy unit in use, I'd recommend you grab a roll of Kapton tape.

This should be grounded, because it has a metal case. If it was grounded, you would not run into those problems with the first usb hub. 9:28

Hi, How many external HDD 2,5" would be able to sustain for daily use? Thanks!
@thorable5303 жыл бұрын
Get the orico 16 port with switches now for that and has a bigger power supply to boot, 5A vs 6.5A@12v, but even then I doubt it could spin up more than 5 drives at the same time, though it could probably sustain more if started in sequence as drives require 5v2A~ to start up, much less to keep going.

Those cylinder capacitors are not solid state they are electrolytic. You are confusing surface mount with solid state.

This device can be a safety hazard, as at this build quality if someone took a whack from this USB hub to their head they will get some serious concussion. About that inductor, it was not soldered properly. Toroids like those are known to be difficult to solder down properly unless you either glue down the magnetic wire beforehand or take some good care when soldering. I would whip out my soldering iron and put a little bit of rework on it to make sure it is solidly soldered down to the board.
