Got one of these little Orico NVME cloners a few days back, and today got my first chance to use it, cloning a WIn10 install on family member's laptop, cloning a small 250 GB Intel 600 SSD WIn10 installation over to a 500 GB Samsung 960 EVO. Used the little cloner in stand-alone mode, took less than 8 minutes to copy the 250 GB drive. (Naturally, the drive booted fine, but, only showed as a 250 GB drive in disk management, and, of course the recovery partition was listed before the spare/unallocated space for the remaining 250 GB of the new 960 EVO. A quick bootup of Rescuezilla, and specifically the included Gparted application, allowed moving the recovery partition to the end with '0' bytes afterward, and then resizing the main partition to to encompass the remaining space, done by simply dragging the slider to the far right. Bingo, easy -peasy! SHutdown, reboot, done!) I did not expect the off-line/standalone clone of a 250 GB SSD to finish that quickly, I am very impressed!

so the reality is this isnt really cloning but just copying with some hoops to jump through to utilize a larger size drive when all is said and done

You have to press the m.2 down til it clicks on the tabs located in the middle of slot. That secures the drive in place so that you can carry it about.
@iftibashir2 жыл бұрын
Correct - it seems the unit I received had a fault since that middle tabs were missing.

the method is fine for some drives less for others. An intel 660 drive or Samsung 960, either would pop back up at 45 degree angle with just the slightest touch after it was seated. Tolerances in width of assorted SSDs, I'd guess....

@mdd196310 ай бұрын
I had to boot a Rescuezilla Live USB, fire up Parted Magic....; adjust Windows recovery partition to have zero space at it's end, which will move it to the end (far right) along the slider indicator of drive space. Then you can resize the main WIndows partition via the GUI slider bar all the way to the left, leaving almost no space before the recovery partition, then click the 'apply' checkmark which will perform both resizing/move opeartions in about 1 minute or so. Reinstall drive, boots fine with all space afterwards!

Try point a fan directly at it if you get nervous - the Sabrent Cloning station has active cooling, which certainly helps.

my 250 GB source drive to 500 GB destination clone took only 8 minutes in standalone (no PC connected) mode..; what size drive were you cloning for it to be lasting 1 hour or more? (I expected the clone to take an hour, so was quite darn surprised with it hitting 25% in 2 minutes, 50% in 4 minutes, etc...)

Hello iftibashir. I want to upgrade my very small 256 GB ssd from my PC to a 1T new one. My question is: Can I safely take out my 258 one out my PC, use this duplicator to clone it to the new 1T one and then stick that in my PC and everything is sorted? Everything that is on my PC including my Windows is on that 256 ssd.
@iftibashir Жыл бұрын
Yes thats correct. You can then expand the partition once back in Windows to take full advantage of the extra space on your new SSD.
@mdd196310 ай бұрын
YOu will not be able to expand the partition in Windows *if* the recovery partition is in the way, i.e.,the unallocated space occurring *after* the recovery partition. I had to boot a Linux Live CD with Parted Magic on it, and adjust the locations within Parted Magic. Easy enough. (I summarized the process above, but there are tutorials on it on KZbin)

You're supposed to snap the drives down. If you use it properly they don't "flop around".

Hang on, so if I clone using this tool it will create a 64GB partition (from a 64gb drive) automatically? This won't work on a Steam Deck for example.. can I turn that 64GB into a bigger number?
@iftibashir Жыл бұрын
It’s a like for like copy. So you have to expand the partition using the extra capacity on the target drive after the clone process is complete.

If you press down on the nvme drives, there is a rubber bumper that locks it in place.
@iftibashir3 жыл бұрын
Double checked my unit just now and there is definitely no rubber bumper installed.
@jasontang20763 жыл бұрын
@@iftibashir You need to slide the nvme drives not at an angle but parallel to base. This allows the m.2 to sit securely on the dock. I actually did the same as you and inserted it at an angle. if you carefully slide parallel, you won't have it flopping at an angle.
@jsalce3 жыл бұрын
Orico has two similar models. One model is longer than the SSDs and do have rubber bumpers. The unit on the video is shorter than the SSDs so there are no bumpers.
@cornelsmitherman253 жыл бұрын
Also if you sit the unit on a raised peice of flat metal, it will draw the generated heat from it.
@eddie55562 жыл бұрын
@@iftibashir At 4:39 you can clearly see the rubber he is talking about. Maybe not a bumper, but a rubber insert that has a lip on it. You have to lay the drive flat in the slot Before it gets to the rubber insert, sliding the drive Under the rubber lip.

With a Dell bios using UEFI, you may need to go into the BIOS and "Add Boot Option" (even if you are testing your clone in the machine your source SSD came from). Once I did this, I was able to boot Linux from the clone (which is using rEFInd).

Orico is a favorite small-device supplier but they still do things WRONG. Like the refusal to use USB 3.1.2, 3.2 or whatever nomenclature they want to give us fastest speeds for any file transfers. The cost of those connectors and daughterboards don't seem to be even a penny more expensive that 3.0... or 2.0, for that matter. As for Thunderbolt, yeah, I wish-! I am looking for Orico's general manager's home address, so we can send him ALL of the old Orico paperweights and doorstops we've had to buy to survive at such slow data-transfer rates. Maybe he has a backyard swimming pool he can dump HIS junk into.
