My Orient Star retrograde has better timekeeping than my Longines Conquest with top grade ETA. With -3 secs in a day, it is admirable.

Great watch, and great value. I have this one with the bracelet and blue hands. It's so versatile, and the pie-pan dial is beautiful. The bracelet is great for the money. It would be a strong contender for the dressier side of an affordable two watch collection, if I was inclined to go that route.

Hey Curt! Orient knows that the domed crystal and dial never fails, they're eye candies. I also appreciate affordable watches with signed crowns. I have a 2nd gen. Bambino version 1 and I love it. That Orient Star Classic will definitely be in my wishlist.

Wow..only 20 minutes. I spent hours there and had lunch there. Fantastic place. I want to go back but there are other parts of Japan I want to see that I didn’t get to when I was there. A second trip is in order but I’ll need to save up for another trip like that.

Kurt, It has been many years since I even thought about Yodobashi Camera store. I bought my Olympus OM-1 35mm camera there! What a walk down memory lane! I also have an Orient Star watch. It has a rose gold finish with a cream gulloche dial and Breguet blued hands with power reserve. I get lots of compliments. I do need to upgrade the strap. Thanks.

I've always loved this watch, acutally pulled the trigger on it once but it was never shipped. Won't mention the seller but did get my money back. Love it but know I won't wear it that often so keep waiting to buy something else more expensive that I would wear more often. Have limited funds allocated to watch collecting. Great video .

You did right! I bought mine four years ago and it still appeal to me as it did the day I purchased it! My specific model (that came on a steel bracelet) is the one with the same exact dial but with blue hands (and yes, even the charge indicator is in blue). Cheers, mate! Great as usual. Kurt!! Great video once again! This watch is so clean and professional. I really like the way the double dome makes it pop. You're right the strap is the only thing I'm like ehhh about. Has always been one of my favorite watches, would probably not wear it much but love the look and style. Actually ordered it once but it was never shipped, at least got a refund. Haven't seen it again at the same price. Won't say who it was but it was on ebay. Love your sense of humor.

Killer watch. Orient has been cranking out some tremendous models lately. Picked up the Triton diver a few weeks ago and it looks and wears like a $2k timepiece. I'll be checking this one out, as I mostly wear business casual and business formal for work.

Great review of a stunning watch. I have the blue hands bracelet version and it's such a classy looking watch. I have 2 Orient Star's (my other is the black dial Retrograde) and Orient Star is an amazing quality brand. They are definitely underrated by some. Enjoy ⌚

That's a great value for the price- a very classic, elegant look, and Orient quality. Looks like a watch in a much higher price range. Agree, it would be better without the date function. "Pearlage" is the word you're looking for on the display back.

minitwatch Hey Kurt, I went for a Sarg 009. It wasn’t a like for like swap, but it was a better fit for my wrist (8.5”) I think it pulls off a dressy look on the right strap and certainly works well as a daily piece. I love the 6R15 movement. Overall it was a good fit for my taste and my budget.

The clock as such must serve to mark time in the most efficient and precise manner. Nothing to say about aesthetics and size, but I would have made only three changes three: 1- I would have eliminated the charge hand; 2- I would have absolutely not entered the date, the latter by now, no longer needed, anyone who owns a cell phone, for me the calendar as the days of the week are an overdue excess. 3- The most important, I would have inserted the hour bars and the hands with the super luminova.

Have to say I like it, 300 plus I’m not sure but going to have to add this watch reminded me of my first watch I bought myself many moons ago was a Timex. Why can’t Timex add a few great options like the power reserve option, love that but that feature adds considerable to any watch. I’m bashing Timex for having same BORING CRAP. NO EFFORT BY TIMEX TO CLIMB THE LADDER. THIER OWN FAULT.. This video was however very nice, quality was smooth, closeups were swell, the 2 clowns at the end are funny and I enjoy smiling with them. Continued success grasshopper.

I would probably have a hard time with this watch if I had to have aftersale service. I don't think Orient Watches USA would help me out here. I could be wrong but because I bought it in Japan and because it's JDM model, they might not honor the warranty. We'll see!

Don't you find the hands jumping when setting the time? They don't move smoothly like on most watches. Had two of these and they were both the same in that regard.

Nice watch. I have the SAF02004W0 version, an Asian market release designation. Both the RK and SAF versions have the same F6N4 calibre while the SEL and WZ have the 40N52 calibre. Just not sure why the SAF versions are cheaper than the JDM RK versions

Hey Curt, my Star has the same JDM movement. Quick question. Have you noticed a slight shift in the movement when you pull out the crown to set the time? It's really subtle but it's there. I opened my case to take a look and everything looks Kosher. Just thinking it's a weird design flaw.

Still, it was a dick move on TGV's part. Was going to make my own video calling him out on it. But decided I didn't want to get hassled by TGVs fanboi army for the rest of time. ...and hey I'll admit it, I was partly inspired making my Watchbot character by this channel (though the character itself was more based on Drinkbot from the old TikiBarTV channel)... Hi, can anyone help me. I am looking to do a coffee patina dial mod on my sea urchin. I was wondering when i put the movement back into the case, does it automatically slot in at the right alignment or do i need to use my eye to manually align? Also do i need to lock the movement in before screwing the caseback back on? Thanks in advance!!

Why would they? Very difficult to make. Ruins design. Messes up water resistance. It’s pretty easy to adjust the watch once you open it

Personally, I’m not a fan of the half polished half brushed handset. A lot of times they appear like half hands, missing the other half. I’d rather have them on the same finish all over. Also, the date window as pointed out by many, is too far from the dial and the date window is small, creating overshadows. And third, a dress watch shouldn’t have the thickness of a dive watch. Back in the days when this design was popular manufacturers were competing to make the slimmest watch. That’s now lost. I’d prefer this to be manual wind watch with 7-9 mm thickness not 13.3. Other than these annoyances its a great overall watch.

Good review, the accuracy of this watch falls within the Seiko watch with 6R15 mechanism which has similar spec., +25 and -15 sec per day, the cheapest Seiko watch with this mechanism costs about US500 and above. BTW this watch comes with storage indicator which is a plus.

On a Omega Speedmaster people want the hesalite per se. On a cheap Oriënt however people begin complaining about mineral..

@@ajaxforever5473 actually would much prefer an acrylic crystal on this watch it would suit it better and you could polish the scratches out maybe. With mineral you are pretty much screwed if you get scratches and with a high dome it is bound to happen. Orient was so close with this one, maybe if I see it cheap enough I can overlook it.
