There was no such competition. The truth is that Prince Nico Mbarga's 'Sweet Mother' was a popular that reigned alongside Oriental Brothers songs like "Kelechi" because Nico Mbarga was based in Nigeria and sang some of his songs in Igbo language like the Orientals whose songs were all rendered in Igbo language only.

In my country the Republic of Congo , this song was very famous in the 1970s . It used to be played on our national radio before the live broadcast of major football matches. I didn't even know that it was a Nigerian song .Apart from this song there was also the song " Christiana " of Nico Mbarka .
