All the diagrams of these in my book confused me "just push the point in!" so thanks :D

No problem! I struggled with these for a long time

Thank you. I was trying to figure this out from one of Robert Lang'e books and it wasn't making any sense to me. This was very clear.

I'm glad it helped. It's a lot easier to show something in a video than with diagrams

There’s an easier way to do a closed sink on a square base, but it’s hard to describe through a comment. Prefold and unfold the whole thing and orient it into the shape of a usual square base. The mountain fold should be horizontal. For the small creases making a square, the horizontal ones should be valleys and the vertical ones should be mountains. Now make the horizontal mountain fold and fold down on the small valley fold. Bring the left and right flaps up on existing creases and then down on the small vertical mountain folds. Bring the upper flap down on the small valley fold. Flatten

Thanks. I've done these by following videos and diagrams, but I didn't know what it was called. Now I know in case I see the term but the diagrams aren't clear. 🙂

Glad it helped. Closed sinks are definitely one that can be hard to diagram clearly

Thank you, it was really helpful, I always ended up with a half open half close hybrid

Sorry dude but I think that's poor technique. The paper can easily rip if you do it like that. You need to open up your paper more and concentrate on making the mountain folds first for the sink and then you can easily collapse to make the sink

Are you maybe thinking of an open sink? Most of the time if you do that, you'll end up with an open sink or a mixed sink rather than a closed sink. If you were to look at the square being sunk in the second example, only part of the square becomes a mountain fold during a closed sink. If the whole square becomes a mountain fold, you're doing an open sink.

@@ArtOfFold yes sorry you are right. I didn't observe closely enough that you were doing a closed sink. Really sorry
