[Rather Simple] In honor of Earth Day 2024... How to fold an origami Grey Whale Flicker. This is a model I designed via experimenting with my 10 second fish base. I changed the angles and made a couple more folds and noticed that it kind of looked like a whale. Over many tries, I gradually refined the design using Google Images as reference. Comparing different species of whales, the one that looked to me the most like my model was the grey whale, so that's the direction I aimed for as I was modifying and fine-tuning the design.
As I mentioned near the end of the video, if you twist rhe tail 90° so that it become 3-D, it will look more realistic, but it won't fly well at all, because flickers need to be mostly flat in order to fly well. As with other flickers, adding a little curvature on the body (convex on top) can help make this model fly better because it will act as an air foil and give it lift, like how a frisbee is curved to help give it lift as it flies through the sky.
As I showed briefly at the end of the video, this model can also be flicked as a boomerang, but you have to flick it upward at just the perfect angle, which can be determined by experimenting.
What other animals or plants of the earth can you design as origami flickers?
