Hi tehryanx, Thanks for your comment. We're not experts on topology, but here's what wikipedia says about "stellated octahedron"...hmmm, I think we'll just stick to origami :) "The stellated octahedron can be seen as either a polyhedron compound or a stellation: As a compound, it is constructed as the union of two tetrahedra (a tetrahedron and its dual tetrahedron)."
@tehryanx11 жыл бұрын
You're completely right about this. I was just playing with the one I built from this tutorial when it dawned on me that this could be a stellated shape, so I looked it up and ended up on the page you just posted. Just came here to retract. This video taught me 2 cool lessons, thanks! :)

The best origami modular piece of all time. I don't understand why you'd build 2 6-piece modules though. I find it much easier to add one at a time.

Perfect, clear concise directions. I've looked at several videos on how to assemble this, yours finally made sense. I like how you consider how to balance out the colors, as well.

natur200, take a look at our website (link is in the description of the video). You're sure to find something there that is meaningful to the particular 5 yr old. You can place the item in an origami box. Have fun! -Andy

I learned this 5-6 years ago at a camp from someone there. Ever since I have been making them at home or n the classroom. Since I usually use regular paper to fold these I have ripped so much rectangle paper into square paper. BTW if you make a multicolored one of these with 12 sheets of regular A12 paper it looks SICK

Elias, great perseverance, congrats on finishing it!

This is cool but I'm pretty sure it's two intersecting tetrahedra, not an octahedron. An octahedron has 8 faces but only 6 vertices. A tetrahedron has 4 vertices and if you intersect two of them it looks similar to this shape. This is like two mirrored intersecting tetrahedra that have been slightly inflated.

terrapin my kid came home with one so we spent an hour trying to ID it. You are definitely correct. The triangular additions to the faces threw us off. Learn something new.

Some of the information is missing. There is nothing about how to get the modules in a more rounded shape. The part where the two halves are joined together spoils what is an otherwise good video.
