What's so extraordinary about this model is its impossible to predict the emerging structure after pushing in the water-bomb basis .. No surprise, that once again your instructions were accurate and easy to follow .. thanks!

I used a 19.5cm square for the red waterbomb. You can either cut paper to that size, or try to find sources that sell that size. Though it's not as common as 15cm (6in), it's still widely available in online stores.
@Happyfolding15 жыл бұрын
@Dillon594209 It's a pattern that you can repeat over and over. As to what you make of it, whatever you like. You may want to fold a tessellation resembling scales to then fold a fish or a dragon from the tessellated paper. Or you may just enjoy the tessellation itself. Personally, I like the process of folding tessellations, and I am fascinated by the patterns, and find them quite beautiful.

@Tristeracles If you want to create a larger sheet, you can try taping the paper together.

This one was nice and easy! I attempted to do an Escher steps tessellation I found on Flickr, but was unsuccessful. I could see some similarities to the clover folding and hydrangea, since it was inspired by Fujimoto. I'm horrible at completing ones with only a crease pattern and no real guide, so I'm gonna try and keep at it. I plan on looking up the model/technique that influenced it, and that way I'll have a better reference.
@Happyfolding13 жыл бұрын
@dscheatablegame There's an origami base called waterbomb base, which is the basis of this tessellation.
@feralferret10 жыл бұрын
After I finished folding this design, it was a surprise to find the end model has such odd dimensions! Ended up being 3x3 squares, but with a number of extra random squares on differing sides. But then again, the original tessellation pattern wasn't symmetrical to start with, so I suppose it follows that the end-model would be asymmetrical. I guess it's very possible to either fold the 'offending' squares back into the model so they become unseen, or physically cut a few of the 'offending' squares out of the model (with scissors, shock horror) to make it rotationally symmetrical if desired. Nevertheless, the result is very pleasing to the eye. Thanks again Sara. :)
@Happyfolding15 жыл бұрын
@Taypion I think Eric Gjerde called this model "water bomb", because each of the squares in the top look a bit like the origami model called "water bomb".
@Happyfolding14 жыл бұрын
@STINKFISHcompany The higher divisions are a bit harder. But if you've successfully done a 16 by 16 version, I believe you should be ok. The folding is the same (just a bit more of it), collapsing may be a bit trickier to start with because you need to get more creases pointing all in the right direction.

The videos on tessellation techniques should help. As to videos showing how to fold a tessellation from start to finish - I currently don't have any planned. The next couple of videos I want to do some other stuff again, I've done quite a bit of tessellation stuff recently and do want to keep a nice balance. However, sometime in the future there'll definitely be more tessellation videos!

amazing video. I don't have words to say thank you!!
@Happyfolding15 жыл бұрын
Well, you can always skip over those parts. I've decided to do this, because on the videos where I say that and just skip over that part, I get lots of queries as to how to do it. So I agree that it is not necessary for everyone to see these steps, but a lot of people do want to see it. As it's easier to skip over a part than to make it appear magically if you need the extra detail, I've decided to add that detail. Hope this makes it more understandable.

@apatel98 To make this into a modular, you'd need to add flaps and pockets or some other sort of locking mechanism. These are not part of the design I presented. If you want to have more squares, simply fold a larger grid (i.e. with more divisions).
@Happyfolding15 жыл бұрын
In the book it's listed under beginner's projects. I'd rate it as a simple fold. It might well be the easiest model in the book, actually.

How do you handle the modules in the middle of the paper when you have a larger sheet and more divisions?
@Happyfolding14 жыл бұрын
@mohitdandekar123 You can repeat the pattern more often. Also, the more often you repeat the pattern, the more the paper will probably "curl".

I will make other tessellation videos in the future, but I fear it won't be tomorrow. Try combining the different basics to make interesting patterns. Or look at crease patterns and try to fold them using the basics. You might be surprised with how much you can do with those basic techniques. Just give it a try!
