There’s a reason the TS808 has been on the top of the list for guitar players for decades, it offers a natural sounding overdrive that blends well with your amp thanks to a bit of clean blend and its EQ naturally bumps midrange to help your guitar cut through. But there’s always a trade-off, the 808 can expose its mashup of clean and dirty signals in not so musical ways when playing through a clean amp and most importantly, cleaning up with the guitar volume can often result in thin clean tones due to emphasized midrange and lack of bass and treble.
Enter the Origin Effects Halcyon Green Overdrive. Built on the foundation of an 808 but certainly not a clone, Origin have come up with an entirely new adaptive circuitry to combat the thin midrange tones when cleaning up with the volume knob or dynamic playing. As the signal cleans up, the full frequency range is smoothly restored, giving you fat rhythm tones that can easily morph into a roaring leads without stepping on additional pedals.
The Adapt toggle allows stock 808 behavior, mild and heavy Adapt applications. Plus, they’ve given you the power to let as much or as little dry signal back into the mix, a huge improvement whether you like playing into a clean or dirty amp. The Voice switch presents you with stock 808 EQ or emphasized presence which will delight humbucker fans, especially with the neck position.
Like other Origin Effects, the Halcyon comes equipped with high quality components, an ultra high input impedance to let your true guitar signal shine and buffered bypass to preserve the dynamic signal coming from this innovate circuit. I'm ready for an Origin Effects Rotosphere emulator! I think it would be awesome if it were set up like your preamp + effect pedals like the Magma57 and Deluxe61.

That sounded sarcastic, especially considering we're talking about a TS here, but I sincerely think they have a unique approach.

I got the Chase Bliss Brothers on a good deal... Around 240? I still thought it was overpriced. I said to myself, this better be the best overdrive I have ever heard! And then it was. Pedals like that (and this) are more expensive than mass produced counterparts but you're also paying for the R and D involved in making both new digital and analog circuits. Brilliant companies are falling away by the day so it's important to vote with your dollars. I recognize that I'm talking about innovation in the comment section of the worlds millionth tube screamer but this seems to be genuinely offering a lot of pedal for the admittedly high price.

that adapt switch honestly would/could be better if it was a knob, allowing full range of adjustment… just a thought

well, they sure know their target audience! Sounds great as per usual but I wonder if they are still using that buffer from Cali76/Revival/Magma that really hated other dirt pedals and always seemed to cut a bit of fidelity, in my rig at least

It doesn't sound bad, but it doesn't really sound radically different and amazing to me either. Hard to translate feel in the audio of a KZbin video, but I feel like I wouldn't pay Origin Effects prices for this sound.
