My friend bought chevy 350 parts from them. They steered him wrong on valve springs and cam. They specifically told him the springs would work with flat tappet cam. Turns out they were too stiff and he had a flat cam in no time at all! Because he was breaking in with 20w50 oil, when he cold started, the oil went thru bypass on filter and the metal trash went straight to the engine and took out a main crank bearing. They would only warranty the cam. He had another several hundred if not a grand in parts and machine work. I already figured I would avoid these guys.

Reading and researching old automotive mechanical theory, will take you a long ways in doing your own vehicle repair work. Reading and then wrenching is the key. When you don't understand, you dig in more and research until you do understand. This is also how you become a great problem troubleshooter. When you seek to understand. There's no shortage of great old automotive textbooks being thrown out every day. Anything from 1969 and back could be great reading material for you. I highly recommend Dyke's Automotive Encylopedia. A 1940's period edition. Get down to the basics and build from there.You have nothing to lose, only gain. When an old simple truck breaks down on the road far from home, the depth of your knowledge and understanding of each automotive system will get you home under the vehicle's own power, 95% of the time.

So , as other people have said , the valley pan is the manifold gasket . You don't need the paper gasket underneath it as you did in the vid . Chances are that it will just screw up the position of the manifold between the heads and cause a sealing problem . Also , that is a dry manifold , no water goes through it . The middle holes that you rtved the crap out of are for exhaust gases to go through to warm the carb on colder days and it heats the choke valley where the choke assembly mounts . Some guys put a small metal plug over them to keep the manifold cooler , ( in warmer climates ).

Those hog ring hose clamps work okay. Standard for years. But it does take a special pair of hog ring pliers to get on and off. But changing them out for gear drive clamps is a good idea.
@markrandall14564 жыл бұрын
They put continuous pressure as they are spring steel. When you tighten a typical hose clamp it only gets as tight as you make it. Theoretically the rubber can relax and then get a leak. Never happens that I know of. But the spring steel clamps are the berries and easy to use with the tool made for those clamps.

Diesel, little brother, do a bit of study, even Google stuff before you start. Get advise. Your thermostat could've been covered in crap from the radiator, you don't know if it had creek water or anti freeze in it before you got it. With the thermostat, boil the kettle, get a container big enough for the thermostat to fit, pour in the boiled water, if it's ok, it'll open, if it's no good it won't open. You're worried about the cost of gaskets but happy to throw money on part you might not need. Good luck young fella.

Years back I had a 1965 Ford f100 straight 6 and it was blowing white smoke out the exhaust so once in a while I put a bottle of liquid lead in the fuel tank and that stopped it from blowing white smoke out the exhaust. When you're truck was new it ran leaded fuel and you're trying to run unleaded fuel in that motor that is why your getting white smoke from your exhaust. Check with your parts stores see if they still carry a bottle of liquid lead for the fuel. You might not find it any more today. That or just rebuild your motor.

You should find a 400 for it, that would give it some nice power everywhere, might be better to keep the small chamber heads for a nice compression bump(400s are 8.2:1 stock), still use the same intake and carb, ignition and exhaust. The fuel economy probably wouldn't be any worse, might do better if it's not working as hard.

I've got a 63 F500, the older generation and some of the newer really do appreciate you leaving it all original, try to save them Motors best you can. And go pick you up some zinc additive to add to the motor the motor them older motors need to have that in them. if you don't put the zinc in that motor won't last. And I'd use both tanks who knows you may need one or the other at some point oh, if you decide to do a long trip in it.

Yep unless that motor has been re-done which is doubtful, it was designed to run with leaded gas. This "older" guy remembers lead gas.

I think you're making more problems for yourself. You don't need more gaskets; there were no gaskets when you took it off, why would you put any on there? Also, that's not the way to use that rtv sealant. Might have wanted to think about new bolts and putting anti seize on them.

@kooglehoffer64014 жыл бұрын
Hi Fellas. I hate to tell you but you've got a problem. The middle port is an exhaust port. It is for cold weather. There should be a heat riser on the passenger side exhaust manifold. It's a valve that closes when cold and directs the exhaust through the manifold untill the engine warms up. Make sure it is not rusted shut. You have to find out where the water came from. I am thinking a cracked head or blown head gasket. I take the heat riser out and install the valley pan that has the exhaust passage blocked off. You have to find out where the water is coming from. I can't remember if the intake manifold bolts need sealer on them or not. It may be that simple. Good luck.

For anybody who does this kind of stuff for a living, this was pretty painful to watch lol I was cringing hard through most of the video watching you guys stacking up gaskets and splooging ten pounds of RTV on everything. Should’ve gotten a new pan for it, and definitely should’ve gotten new bolts with the intake, I’ve never seen anybody re-use old bolts when putting an aluminum intake on like that. Also, I can’t remember if you changed the oil in a previous video or not but you should to change it again after having the intake off. Hopefully all that RTV holds strong but I wouldn’t be surprised if the intake leaks somewhere either water or vacuum.

Sure nice to see some genuine MoPar "B" engine experts. The factory was too stupid when they designed that 361. Imagine that they actually thought smaller high velocity ports that produce high torque would be good in a large truck. How stupid of them to put a 2 bbl. carb and governor on an extremely low geared truck to avoid over revving and blowing up the engine. That gonzo big port manifold should produce some mega flow turbulence when the air flow hits the smaller ports. I sure hope you didn't lose the factory parts. Maybe Summit just didn't want to wreck a nice old Dodge truck? Watching this just hurts... had to unsubscribe.
