Original Dragonball and Dragonball GT ANIME Blu-ray Where is it???

Funimation has milked DBZ for ages. There's more to it than just that. As you said, Funimation does not have GT film copies because Toei doesn't give them to international licensors; they only give HQ SVHS Tapes (presumably) outside of Japan. They DO have original DB masters from what I understand, but they probably feel like there isn't a market for them. Apparently Toei gave them film for DB and new stuff for Z around 2008-ish. I disagree with them releasing them 'a few more times'. Just one more time, but done right is all we want.

You know, I totally agree. I think what they need to do is a new BluRay collection that includes *all* of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. If they can upscale & remaster it all, it'd be nice.

If Funimation doesn't want to release DB and GT (and a proper Z release for that matter) on Blu-Ray, maybe a MOD fan company like Stinky Tuna should step up and put them out, especially since the much coveted Japanese Broadcast Audio in their entirety has been leaked online last year. I'm looking to talk them into releasing the original 1986-1997 anime run on Blu-Ray. I would much happily rather support a company like Stinky Tuna Media than Funimation any day.

While I agree with you Blu-ray Standard def would probably be the best route. It's probably unlikely because the DVD market is larger than the Blu-ray market. The beginning of 2020 DVD made up about 55% of phisical media sales and Blu-ray only made up 38%. Not to mention the entire phisical media market as a whole is shrinking with only 10% of total media sales going to DVD. Getting a remastering of the Dragon Box on DVD alone would be optimistic at best.

Dragon Ball - They need to get the Dragon Box masters to upscale like Spain did because what they have now is missing stuff like the second opening, the first, third & fourth ending and Next Episode Previews. Dragon Ball GT - The masters they have now is very close to Dragon Box quality. The main issue with the green brick DVDs in addition to no previews is that they used DNR making the video look blurry in spots while the old DVD single volumes, though not degrained, had macroblocking issues due to being released back when FUNi DVDs had Alternate Angles (pre-2008). They did have the previews though with the subbed Japanese versions which can be accessed through the DVD menus since they also added branching to those singles (basically JP previews if audio is selected to Japanese and dub previews if audio is English). With how FUNi handled DBZ extras-wise for Blu-ray (specifically with the two extras from the Bardock/Trunks & first Ultimate Uncut DVDs on the Season 4 Blu-ray set), GT could have similar treatment since it wasn't just the previews missing on the green bricks. As for SD Blu-ray, it would be the best move but then FUNi has yet to try it (and they have PLENTY of shows that got them in Japan recently) so if they go the upscale route, it's whatever with me. I actually wouldn't mind it with GT as long as they put the same effort they did with Z extras-wise plus I don't see an "improved" DVD re-release for GT doing that well anyway due to how long those green bricks have been out (especially the 2-in-1 complete set) and there not being any super-serious issues to "fix" compared to DBZ's aspect ratio. As for a Japanese release, I wouldn't be surprised if it's all in SD. Toei has been pushing SD Blu-ray HARD with cel-shows since 2018 and even gave it to Fist of the North Star, a show of theirs that got previously re-released on DVD with a "HD remaster" so I wouldn't be surprised at all. Better than the HD upscales they put out before these but still a shame.

I bought the GT sets almost ten years ago but I'd figured they'd have released the blu ray sets by now even if they don't have the original materials. My guess if Funi were to release a blu ray set for Ball or GT it'd probably have the quality of the Bleach blu ray latter sets which isn't that bad for me.

Now that they have been re-branded and unified under Crunchyroll...I REALLY hope they will finally put OG Dragon Ball out on Blu Ray. I'd also like a single Blu Ray Box Set for Kai. Super is being given a Steelbook Blu Ray set from Crunchyroll. Fingers crossed they will FINALLY FINALLY do something similar and give Kai and OG Dragon Ball a matching Blu Ray set.

The best opportunity to do DB and GT Dragon Boxes would've been after the Z Boxes. I do think it would be neat to do SD BDs for both shows, but I doubt Funi would want to sell a BD unless they could claim that it's in HD. Something I'd also hope for in a hypothetical rerelease would be redubs for both shows. While Z has Kai, DB has no viable alternative and while GT has the Blue Water dub, it's not exactly accessible and some folks might be put off by a different voice cast even if it were accessible. They could even include the original dubs on the discs as alternate audio tracks for people nostalgic for them. Heck, I'd be happy if JUST DB got the redub. Alas, that's not liable to happen unless Toei surprises us with a Kai recut.

How about Funimation release the Dragon Ball Super as season sets? They already released the parts of Dragon Ball Super. So it will best for them to release the season sets of Dragon Ball Super instead of re-releasing Dragon Ball Z all over again for over 20 years.

It's ridiculous how quickly I would order Dragon Ball and DBGT Dragon Box masters if they were released by Funimation. I get that Z is the most popular, but it is frustrating see all of these haphazard Z releases (besides the Dragon Boxes and the short-lived Level Sets) and nothing new for DB (my favorite of them all) and GT. I hope it happens someday, but I'm afraid my future grandkids will be grandparents before it does lol.

I'm rather pessimistic unfortunately, even if they release blu-rays, they'll probably just do a upscale, DNR, and oversaturate. To this day the old Saga Sets i own are my definitive release, and even then thats only 14-153 cause we never got the Australia saga of goku release. The old Singles of GT are also the best release still in the US, its really quite disappointing.
