@@pieterretief8893 The protector lamp and lighting company are still in business and have some spares for their lamps. Opening depends on the type I've commented on this in a thread above.

@@angelahampsoncollins1023 The deputies lamp the type that can be relit just have a wire and seal to show the lamp hasn't been opened. The type with a lighting wire inside are opened by applying a magnet to the base.

@@angelahampsoncollins1023 If it as two pins you simply put a small horseshow magnet across the two pins and then it will twist. It has a magnetic lock. I found a little Magnet a Menards hardware. You Need one that is the width of the pins so about an inch. When the flame turns blue there is a presents of methane gas. Flame will go out if high levels of carbon dioxide.

Naw, they used head lamps also. They primarily were used to check air quality.
