This was basically a car crash simulator 😂 I was covered in bruises every day after a Six Flags visit with this original model. The new model is much smoother, but still absolutely crazy.

The new Texas Giant is smoother, stepper, faster... so yeah, it's better. But there will always be a special place in my heart for the original. I'm glad that Six Flags Over Texas still has one (real) wooden coaster left, Judge Roy Scream.

tobylishus vasquez Ride it in the middle seat of the 3 seat car. It's an amazing difference. The second to last seat on the train is a surprisingly good ride. The 1st and 3rd seats of each car are over the axles, which beat the living shit out of the bottom of your seat.

I rode this in the mid 90s. It was super shaky (although not actually painful) back then. I felt the shakiness of it actually added to the ride as it felt like it was falling apart. Glad I didn’t ride it in later years - I sure it would have been brutal. On the day I was there it was in my top two rides there, top 1 for thrills, and I went in thinking it would be dull. How wrong can one person be.

Rode that coaster when it first got there in 1990 in the early 2000's that thing got so ruff it hurt riding anywhere on it. I quit riding it the last 6 years before they added steel in it. I ride it now with no problem at all Great coaster.

@thesoftparade19907 жыл бұрын
Actually the last time I rode it was a weekday in June of 2008. It was walk on so I re rode it a few times. It was as good as any year before and the roughness was typical of that of any other Woodie. Dunno if it really even needed refurbished but it is what it is. Mean Streak I rode past year (first time in a couple years) and it was rough to the point of being nearly nauseating. Hopefully RMC can make it profitable. The sad part is Mean Streak was probably the most picturesque wooden coaster I've ever seen. Situated there in the back around trees by the clear blue water, absolutely gigantic. Just wish it was as good to ride as look at.
@br123mn12 жыл бұрын
looks nice, but i prefer the woodies that dont have that much curves in the hills, i prefer those that have hills and after the hills the curves and stuff, still it looks intense!

Not as bad as RCCA ;) Dinn had some half-decent coasters. Thunder Run, Wolverine Wildcat and Georgia Cyclone are all fairly decent (though Georgia Cyclone is rough as hell, it has soon good airtime). Meanwhile, every single one of RCCA's coasters are/were slow, forceless and rough.

Honestly this one looks realy fun but after the accident I prepher the new one
@mhtube019 жыл бұрын
+Emily Hansen The accident happened on the new one, not this one. To my knowledge, this one never saw an accident, it was just known for being rough. The only reason they gave it the "iron horse treatment" is because they neglected this one (like they do all wooden coasters) and it kept getting rougher so it lost popularity. If they had maintained it from the beginning, it could still be there. Cresting that drop and seeing that mess of wood you were about to go through is something the new one definitely doesn't have.

One of my core memories when I was 8, my family and I visited SFOT. I didn’t get to ride the other rollercoasters due to my size lol and I was sad about it. So almost to closing time, my dad wanted to check out the original Texas Giant. So we went and when we ask the operator if I was able to ride. They said yes, honestly I was so excited but scared. So I sit next to my dad and he holds my hand tight. As soon we get to the top hill, I remember my dad said, “are you ready?” I’m like “yes!”. After the ride ended, I couldn’t stop talking about how it was my first rollercoaster and the thrill was amazing. Thus my love for rollercoasters began…So original Texas Giant holds a special place in my heart. Because now when I’m riding rollercoasters it brings my inner child out. ❤️

Old TG was great and rough like a woody should be, had a lot more character, really liked the original layout. New TG is smoother but less character, definitely lost something with the conversion mainly due to changes in layout IMHO. Still a great revival of an aging ride.
