The official title of the Christmas Special is "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". It ended up becoming the show's premiere due to a delay which caused the postponement of the start of the show until Christmas 1989 and early 1990. The delay was due to animation problems in some episodes, especially "Some Enchanted Evening", which was intended to be the premiere, but ended up becoming the Season 1 finale as opposed to the intended closer, "The Crepes of Wrath", which went out as Episode 11 instead.
