That was so nice probably the only time we didn’t hear the iconic Reg Grundy drumroll

@@thechadmosher 😃 This was actually a lucky find. It was on an unlabeled tape that had some unrelated movie from this time period, I was about to think there was nothing else on the tape until it randomly cut to a Christmas special that aired before this episode of Scrabble.

Xmas in Washington aired from 10-11AM ESTon NBC in the 80s on XMas Day. Pyramid and Card SHarks from 10-11AM on CBS at the time were preempted for holiday programming that year. @@EvanMediaArchive

Just like Scrabble’s sister show Sale of the Century, Scrabble also uses this same Christmas song to close out the Christmas themed shows.

Chuck even said in an interview how this show should still be on the air no matter who's hosting it.

This would have been the last episode of a NBC game show to have end of show fee plugs until Scrabble on 1/18/1993. After USA aired this episode circa Fall 1992, they went back to October 1984.

When USA Network skipped the spelling format to September 2, 1985 on April 12, 1993, did the reruns with the straddling format after that continue to April 22, 1994? I believe the latest available episode with that format was rerun on April 15, based on the voiceover promo for the Senior PGA Tournament. The final episodes with the straddling format were last rerun no later than April 1994. That much can be confirmed. It's possible they skipped a couple of weeks along the way.

How do you sweep baldness under the rug?
@richardhernandez44907 ай бұрын
I had the same exact question myself.
@snotloutisagod29563 ай бұрын
If I’m correct on this one, “rug” is synonymous with toupee in this context, therefore the clue “sweep under the rug”.
@phen3142 ай бұрын
I think it was "keep it under the rug".

The end-of-show parting gifts on this and other NBC game shows were dropped the following week. They had already upgraded the Reg Grundy Productions logo by this point.

They must have retired an undefeated champion the previous day.
@richardhernandez44907 ай бұрын
I wonder if that undefeated champion was Yvonne Eubanks.

For Christmas 1986, they concluded the 13-week long $100,000 All-American Tournament, which also launched the self-contained format, by crowning Mark Bartos as the grand prize winner. For Christmas 1984, Chuck thought Aaron celebrated Christmas. For Christmas 1988, Sol began his Teen Week run. No idea what went down for Christmas 1985 and 1989.
@IvoryM19867 ай бұрын
Christmas Week 1989 was Teen Week which was December 18-22, 1989. December 23-27, 1985 could also be Teen Week.

Notice the previous episode had an outgoing champion ended with a maximum 5 Bonus Sprint attempts and won the jackpot on the 5th attempt.
@richardhernandez44907 ай бұрын
I knew 1987 had at least two retire undefeated: Yvonne Eubanks and Lisa Turner.
