The Industrial Revolution transformed life on Earth more than any event since the Agricultural Revolution. In this video, Nick Dennis explores how industrialization changed our lives and why it started in Britain. There are many reasons that industrialization took off in Britain, including its abundance of coal, its geography and environment, and its economy. Still, many believe British industrialization would have been impossible without resources extracted from its colonies.

It started when James Watt invented the first PRACTICAL Steam Engine in Scotland in the 1760's. The first new scource of Power since the Water-wheel was invented. It was a Power Revolution. Coal, textiles, canals, big business, trade, empires and more have been around for millenia. Watt's first PRACTICAL Steam Powered engine was the only thing that had never existed before.

Britain from 1800 to 1900. 20,000 Waterwheels decreased in number. Windmills decreased in number. The Englishman Thomas Newcomen's 1,500 Atmospheric Pumps disappeared. The Scotsman James Watt's 500 Steam Engines and their descendants increased in number to 10,000,000 !!! So, for every SINGLE Waterwheel in 1800 we now had 500 James Watt Steam Engines and their descendants in 1900 !!! That's a 500 times increase in total Power Output for the whole country in just one ( possible ) human lifetime!!! This WAS the Industrial Revolution, it was a Power Revolution. It only needed one Invention, James Watt's Invention of the world's first PRACTICAL Steam Powered Engine. It was the only thing that had never existed before. It had nothing to do with Textiles, Spinning and Weaving, Agricultural Revolutions etc.etc that are all being Preached as the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

Seemingly a good documentary on how the British started the Industrial Revolution. I didn't like the part at the end suggesting that Britain was in part so successful due to slave labour. The British were slave trading with people who were trading their own people for their own personal wealth. Also, pretty much most of Europe was also slave trading with these same slave traders, yet Britain was simply vastly more technological than the rest of Europe/the World.

@@danipoor you just brushed off the indigenous slave traders from being bad, because they perhaps might not have made immense profits from the people they enslaved and traded with the UK and Europe. You should read a book before having a little temper tantrum again! 6/10, see me?

@@danipoor oh dear dear, dear little one. The indigenous slave traders were trading with all countries, not just the British. Was it awful, absolutely. It's why the British were the first to stop slave trading, and educate them instead. An education that you clearly need, rather than get in a flap...

@@julianneale6128 your argument is so dumb that you have to resort to being condescending and calling people “dear little ones.” Your initial point was that you “didn’t like that part at the end suggesting that Britain was in part so successful due to slave labour.” Of course they were, that’s like history 101. Maybe you didn’t learn that because you’re so old that they weren’t teaching that back in the 1800s, or whenever it was you were in school.

@@anim8everything you need to look up the word. 'Dumb.' It makes no sense in your sentence. Also if you had read any of my previous statements you'll heave read that it wasn't just Britain that was trading slaves, everyone was doing it. So to that point the answer is no. If all the countries were trading slaves and Britain was clearly on top regarding its power, then your argument is void. Britain made its huge empire on its incredible technology, intelligence and its military, above and beyond anything else. What makes you think I'm old by the way? You don't know who I am, what country I'm from or in, and you don't know my age.

@@danipoor my question is, what on earth are you trying to say? Read my original post. It's accurate and correct. If I told you that I am black, would that be now acceptable for defending myself after being attacked by you. The comment sections are always full of arrogant armchair warriors, just like all of us in this comment section here so don't think you're the special one.

What nonsense. This doesn't discuss the origins at all. You're better off reading about proto-industrialization.
