Adley, Gunner, Colton, Jordan, Jackson....5 amazing young stars along with the amazing Cedric Mullins and Company....its a good time to be an O's fan. I've been a lifelong fan and throughout my life there's never REALLY been a team capable of winning it all here in Baltimore until last year. A few good seasons thrown in throughout my 38 years, but never any where I thought they'd actually win it all...despite having some truly amazing players. Pitching has been their kryptonite my entire life, watching them give up and give away studs like Schilling, and more recently Arrieta and Josh Hader. They seem to have worked a lot of kinks out in how they develop their pitchers but more work is needed in that area. But with the young core of stars making up over half the lineup, they should be just fine offensively and can focus on the pitching. Add in a farm system that is still absolutely stacked with talent, they have A LOT of leeway with raw materials in which to trade into pitching. We could use some positive things in this DC Metro area (DC, Maryland, and Northern VA). An elite baseball team in Baltimore would do the trick nicely. Despite the Nationals being closer I've never been a fan of them.

I’m in the same boat as you. O’s fan from NoVa since the early 90’s. Didn’t jump ship to the Nats and I don’t believe in being a fan of more than one team. It’s honestly unreal what this O’s team has become plus new ownership that will hopefully keep these guys in Baltimore.

I'm also a lifelong Orioles fan at 58 years old. I agree with everything in your comments. I really feel like we have a good window of at least 3 to 5 years with a great core of young talented players and a solid farm system producing more prospects. About the pitching, I would agree that pitching has historically been our weakness, but the same thing can be said for most playoff contenders most seasons. I disagree with your overall opinion with the state of our pitching, which I assume you are referring to our starting rotation. (Considering we lost Bautista, I believe our bullpen is solid.) About the starters, don't forget we have Bradish and Means out with injuries. Yes, most teams struggle with injuries and have to figure out a way to overcome them, but the point I'm making is the orgranization is producing some good pitching on it's own and has shown it is open to trading for elite pitchers when the need arises, which occurred with Burnes. Yes, as to how Means comes back from TJ surgery, and will Bradish return to form from last year are big question marks which will play a big part on whether or not the team can go deep in the playoffs, but the potential is there. With the exception of a couple of other teams, I would put the rotation of Burnes, Rodriguez, Kremer, Means and Bradish (full recovered from injuries) up against any other rotation out there.

A tidbit about "unofficially retired numers." As an Orioles fan since 1980, there were three numbers that I thought should stay "unofficially retired:" 7 (47) [Cal Sr] 44(Elrod), and the next number, now worn by Kimbrel, 46, may have been one of the most sacred of all (to me anyway). This number is near and dear to many older fans who remember Flanny (Mike Flanagan), a longtime Oriole both on and off the field who tragically took his own life in August 2011. As for the next number, I have always been puzzled as to why Cal Senior was attached to the number seven (7) when in reality he wore 47 the majority of his career. Unless they are specifically looking at the last number he wore. Last, but not least, we all know Elrod, 44, a lifelong Oriole (who wore 10 as a player) who served not only the team, but the community as well. **I was not going to broach this but I still think the Orioles should retire #35, Mike Mussina. Yes, he went to that team, but ask why, and no disrespect to Mr. Angelos, but he was not known for tact, patience, or a complex understanding of baseball, and interfered in the WORST ways. BUT, he WAS a savior, and despite his nature the purchase of the Orioles for $173M in 1994 essentially SAVED this team from becoming a footnote in history, much like those of us who remember a team called THE BALTIMORE COLTS .**

Blown calls by HP Ump in the 5th should have walked O'hearn for a run. Then a blown strike call, that would have ended the 5th, but next batter hits a 2run dinger. This ump was terrible tonight. Luckily our Birds pulled it out for the W!
