Lovely Im sure Exu was honored and appreciated for the altar. I am seeing the divide between the practitioners and initiates of others within the African diaspora spiritual community on the subject to whether or not include or mention or honor the orishas in the American hoodoo lifestyle. I feel conflicted and confused because the orishas are the spirit powers of the elements on earth (air, earth, fire, and water and spirit) and all these elements and powers are included throughout the earth and have great impact and influence on all geographical areas of the melanated African diaspora cultures. I live in a state where there is a huge body of water like the ocean, and lakes these are connected to Yemaya/Yemoja and Oshun/Ochun as an example. I don’t see anything wrong with connecting to these energies and incorporating them into your practice and lifestyle. I don’t think the Most High/Divine/Source cares about the rules and details of if a spiritual person is initiated in a specific religion system or not in order to give honor to the elements and spirits that will enhance and empower the person quality of life. I do think one should be respectful of not dishonoring the spirits and the religious systems by not studying and potentially mishandling the information with ill intentions that could have unpleasant consequences. I love and respect the entire diaspora and I encourage oneness and unity because at the very foundation these same elements powers and spirits are what connects us all so we shouldn’t get into divisive thinking and disputes as long as we’re showing up in the frequency of love and respect and kindness that should be the focus and not in disagreements on how we express our spiritual practice then we will just be perpetuating the evil ways of the colonizers and other non-traditional religious systems of the mainstream who argue and dispute about their religious beliefs and practices among each other.
