I think that magnetized piece is the real highlight here. A standard looking terrain piece with magnetization for themes? That's some good thinking! Modular, and simple!

I know a hack for riveting: Dip the end of a wire or pointy instrument in PVC glue or wood glue, the less the better. Now caress the place where you want the rivet; you should get a nice, small bump on the surface. Repeat until your wire doesn't produce round rivets anymore, clean it and dip it into the glue again. It's fast, clean and cheap. It's also very, very adaptable; small rivets look best, but you can make big ones too. Ork "architecture" can benefit a lot from irregular looking rivets. Anyway, my two cents for an amazing channel. Keep it up man.

I tried the first bit where you scuff up the edges and then add super glue, but after I added the glue and let it dry I wasn’t able to glue the edge to any other edges that had dry super glue. That really sucked because I got a whole bunch of cardboard chunks and wasted a couple bottles just on those pieces. I’m still really pleased with the inspiration in the video but I don’t feel like the video was welcome to newbies like me, I can’t really afford to make mistakes without having to wait to be able to try again. Some troubleshooting tips would be very helpful. Thanks for the video, excited to see the next.
@Miscast6 жыл бұрын
Oh man I'm sorry to hear this. I've never had that issue before so lets try to fix it as best we can! 1) When glueing 2 scruffy edges together, scruff them up and then add the glue to one piece and then glue them together while the glue is still drying. 2) Use bicarb soda to help glue the 2 scruffy panels together, it will make the bond super strong. Just sprinkle it on when you've joined 2 pieces together while the glue is still wet. 3) You can always add a bit of cardboard to the back of both of the pieces you're joining to help keep it all together 4) I can relate about not being able to afford to make mistakes, this has been my hobby since I was 12 and I've always worked on the smallest budget I can. I recommend trying to find the cheapest tubes of super glue you can (it's really all the same in my experience), check out dollar stores for the bulk packs or buy it online super cheap. 5) Don't throw away anything, those cardboard chunks can be salvaged, your super glue lids can be turned into something cool. Nothing is wasted, it might not fit this project but you'll be able to use it in the future! Whenever a project doesn't work out for me, I try to find a way of reusing it, sometimes things don't work out, but this hobby takes practice and I make mistakes all the time, but each time we fail we learn and we do get better!. If you need any more help, feel free to contact me at miscastterrain@gmail.com, you can send me some photos of your project and we can work it out together as best I can

Awesome video! I have one question: what glue do you use for the plastic canvas? Can't seem to get it to glue to anything with normal super glue, pva... Also for rivets I found when cutting the plastic canvas down to size, I shaved off a lot of small plastic discs that made great rivets! Not all the same size but might look great on Orc terrain or similar.
@Miscast7 жыл бұрын
Hey! Cheers. Superglue worked fine for me for the canvas. Try washing the canvas and make sure that there is no oil on it preventing the glue from sticking. Failing that try using sandpaper to scuff up the surface you're gluing to give it something to grip to. If all else fails use hot glue and hide your crimes later. Excellent idea making rivets with plastic canvas. I plan on making a video this season trying out all the suggestions in the comments for alternatives or improvements, so I'll give it a shot then!

Love your vids and have a question, is Kappa (or kapa) foam board good for your builds? Like the chaple one for example?
@Miscast7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm guessing from a quick google search that Kapa is a brand name of foamboard? I've never heard of it. I just use generic stuff you could find at a craft or dollar store. Just about anything that is easy to cut, about the same width 5mm or 3/16" will do the job. You can even use corrugated cardboard. I'd recommend to just use what's available to you and at the cheapest price for projects like those :)
@KROP807 жыл бұрын
Miscast Terrain thanks for the reply! The Kappa foam seems to have like a thin cardboard or paper sheet on its outside but within its like regular foam I guess. Maybe I'll try ripping the layer apart might make a pretexture maybe.
@Miscast7 жыл бұрын
Gotcha! Foamboard from the dollarstore is foam, sandwiched between 2 sheets of paper, so it sounds like we might be using the same stuff (unless I'm missing something). If you take the paper off (which can be a bit tricky depending on the foamboard) you can do all sorts with it, like a draw on a brick pattern or wood planks. But in my videos, I like to just cover the paper layer in PVA and sand for a nice stone texture.

Your videos are awsome but man you just dont provide for your fans, you upload once every two months and your videos are never long enough, and you rarely reply to comments, I love you man, but you need to up your game, try showing the whole process and not skipping through, we like to see it all, and upload more, I know it takes work, but even three vids a week is plenty, for instance in this vid you made two awsome peices but you didnt show the second one, it would be nice if you did, thanks for listening, I hope.
@Miscast5 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, making these videos is a hobby for me among lots of other things, the income I make from them is a tiny fraction of what I invest into them. So when I make videos I want them to really count and I put everything I can into them and try to make them as best I can. Filming the build process makes things take double, triple as long to build and there are lots of things to think about so sometimes I also like to build terrain just for me without that stress and that's the case at the end of the video. I make the videos based on videos I like to watch so that's why my videos are short and condense. I don't make them shorter to save me from doing more work, I find it takes much more time to make good short videos. There are lots of options out there for long build videos like The Terrain Tutor if that's the style of video you prefer. I do my best to reply to every question I get in my comments or emails or DMs sometimes they slip through my radar, and if I've missed one of yours in the past I'm sorry about that. That all being said, when I started making videos it was because there weren't any videos out there based on content I wanted to watch, so I started making my own. If you want longer builds and more uploads you should try making videos for yourself and be the change you want to see :)
