Here's a story: I'm an italian 25 guy (Inter Milan fan if you want to know). With a friend 2/3 years ago decide to follow more intensly the MLS. We say "Hey Bro look the MLS, they start to create stronger companies, start to create and buy stronger youngs prospects. Maybe players that european teams will buy in the next years. We have to remain updated even outside the UEFA. Let's take a team in mls and let's start to support it, just to create a reason to follow mls." Ok but... Which team? Fast look on which trophies they won, the shirts, the badges and then we saw it... Bro, look this stadium, it's fucking awesome. Done, we support Atlanta United in the mls (and I add in the whole CONCACAF). We start to watch more games we could and then we noticed a thing "the fans... They nearly seem european fans (and believe me that's a compliment 😂)"... I start to study "why" they are different from other supporters of other teams, start to study the culture of the city of Atlanta and maybe stupidly i start to feel myself near to all of you people of atlanta. Last night was freaking awesome, i jumped like if i just seen italy win the world cup 😂. Congrats from italy and FORZA ATLANTA!!! I promise you, one day you will see an italian guy jumping and singing for atlanta in the marvelous Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the marvelous fans of Atlanta United FC. For those who want to know why the handball was called, here is the relevant portion of the laws of the game: HANDLING THE BALL For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. Not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence. It is an offence if a player: deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised scores in the opponents' goal: directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper *****immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental***** The asterices (*****) were added by me to hughlight the most relevant area. It was a good call based on the laws. Not a popular opinion, I know.

Defenders sliding and using their arm with no intent other than to brace their fall….penalty kick. McGuire with arms down on a chaotic bounce with no intent, not seeing why it was called. Appreciate the language of the laws but this should be the spirit of the law, refs wanted ATL to win to get in wild card spot.

That rule leaves room for interpretation. What does *immediately after* mean? The ball touched his arm, then bounced off an atlanta player and then came back to his feet, and he scored. Does *immediately* after always means someone else needs to score? Or does it need to bounce off 2 defenders? Does it have to be a deliberate play by a defender? Is he not allowed to score until another teammate touches it? If it bounced off a teammate, it would have counted? If he took a dribble would it have counted? It appears to be based on the ref's interpretation.

They also explicitly INcluded deflections from a teammate or opponent as “immediate”. So room for interpretation, sure, but rather constrained.

Criminal biased call for handball at end. OCSC only needed a win or a draw to cinch 4th place, luckily NYCFC lost. If they won Orlando loses home field due to a behind the player call with his arms tight against his body.
