I've seen Chionochloa rubra in many of your videos, it's beautiful and decided that I have to have it! But here in Italy it's not available so I ordered some seeds, and just now I hear you say it's difficult to grow from seeds. Sometimes I read they need cold stratification and sometimes I read they germinate readily if sown in summer. What's the truth? I don't have many seeds and don't want to waste them so was researching the best method to get at least one of them growing. I also really like Miscanthus 'Memory' and fortunately this one is available here so I'm getting it to plant in fall. How long do the plumes stay up in winter? Your garden seems often quite windy so I was wondering how long do they show their seedheads before winter and rain thake them down. Thank you

I think that it's best to sow in summer as that would be the time they shed seed, I'm happy to collect some seed from mine to post to you as a backup should yours fail. As for the plumes, each year is different as the weather can affect when they start , but you should get a good couple of months before they shed the seed, but they should be left as they are for winter interest and cut down in February, that's the miscanthus, leave the chionachloa as they are evergreen. Hope that helps.

I would lift the whole plant to get them out from underneath, then replant, remember to water ut back in, which grass?
