This was the first song I found on the internet, when I was searching for traditional music. It was 1999, when my family just got a dial modem and music files took days to transfer. It was my first search and the music title got my attention. I was 13 years old. Suffice to say, I was so fascinated, so struck by the deepness of those sounds, that I'm still listening, still taken aback...

Traditional folk music shares a common thread all over the world. Music from the Australian outback, the steppes of Siberia, the Mississippi delta all sing about common experiences in the human condition and beneath the instrumental and stylistic differences lie ultimately the same music. It's so obvious what time and place popular music in the west comes from, and too often this music becomes dated and irrelevant with the passage of time. Music like this always stays timeless.

I keep coming back and listening to this song because it's so beautiful. When I hear it, it's like I can see Mongolia... the mountains, the countryside. It's like I can feel the chilly bite of the wind. I really hope that someday I'm lucky enough to hear this music in person.

there is no way to describe the intense emotional beauty of being in a small room with these men when they perform. the instrumentals and the throat vocals vibrate right through your bones, and the emotion is indescribable. when i saw them at McCabe's in L.A., i couldn't help but weep when they played this. God, i wish they'd come back. Often.

It's beautiful. I think if one agrees with me then one is ought to be sensitive to cultures, have deep respect for most cultures and all peoples of the world. Only 40,00 people see this, but if North Americans saw this it would broaden their horizons in an amazing way. Beautiful emotional song. With Peace from Ukrainian guy.

Nice to hear an opinion from a North American:). You know I was tyring not to generalise, it is the easiest thing to do. I a naturalised Australian myself. I really think that it is not very hard to change a situation where many adult US citizens are little aware of the world cultures. Certainly immigrants are a big part of US but it's different. US has some of the best unis and academic organisations that contribute to all of the world in educating people about anything. Cheers.

The Orphan's Lament Two little children, a boy and a girl Sat down by the old church door The little girl's cheek was as brown as the curl That fell on the dress that she wore The little boy's coat was all ragged and torn A tear shone in each little eye Why don't you go home to your mama, they said And this was the maiden's reply Mama's in heaven, angels took her away Left Jim and I all alone And Papa got lost on the sea long ago We have no mama nor home

The Asian heritage of Hungarian music is much studied (ie. by Bartok, Kodaly, Varygas). There are many similar melodies between Hungarians, Mari, Chuvash, Tatars, etc. Between Tuvan music and Hungarian music not so much but both are using pentatonic scales. Hungarian music is more similar to Mongolian music than to Tuvan music.

We can't earn our bread, we're too little, she said Jim's five and I'm only seven We've no one to love us since Papa's away And darling Mama's in heaven The sexton came early to ring the church bell And found them beneath the snow white The angels made room for two orphans to dwell In heaven with their mama that night From the singing of Jean Ritchie, if you'd believe it. America walked with them, Westward out of the East. Great thongs of leather led out from the bits in their mouth, and their eyes were circled with rings of exhaustion and shielded by black leather blinders. Why didn't they ever look behind them? Did they ever wonder why they were so weary and mean? They were all pulling the East with them. - "Was" G. Ryman

Thanks for the reply, I thought I'm alone on this issue; but somehow I feel we cannot simply ignore them. Drug users do not simply exist in lower class. They are one of many detects of W.E.I.R.D. lifestyle, which is invading these nomadic countries. Though people have the right to choose how should they live, I'm afraid that W.E.I.R.D. culture will twist and raze them to ashes, just like the song "Kongurei" depicted ,"Where is my beautiful horse herds gone?"
@dunnodona11 жыл бұрын
Some comments below have totally disgust me:"I take weed/acid/medicine and get high along with this song." It's an orphan's lament. How can you people use it for stoning? Do you want to get high when someone in front of you is lamenting for the lost of parents? Do you even have a heart? I hate generalizing Westerners; but this weed thing is a disgrace of your culture and a great insult to Tuvan maestros.
