Thx. for posting this part of Orson's interview. "It was a brutal place." A profound observation articulated by someone who knew.

With dark clouds over Hollywood these days...Orson's words are prescient here. Maybe it was always that way...

It was. The people working there were just better at keeping the repulsive side under wraps back in the day, without social media and all.

Orson Welles refused to be in any movie with Marlon Brando, who he considered to be "beneath him". That kind of ego is outer-worldly. Well, then to add insult to injury, Welles was rejected by Francis Ford Coppola for the role of Vito Corleone in The Godfather. The role went to Marlon Brando.
@vestibulate Жыл бұрын
This is just supposition on my part, but Welles probably looked at Brando and saw a boorish, ill-mannered, destructive personality without any sense of professional courtesy or personal loyalty. In other words, the worst sort of amateur.

Who would want to work with someone that doesn't show up to work on time, forgets their lines, and treats their coworkers as if they were cattle? Sure Marlon was a great actor, but there is no excuse for bad behavior.
@ricardocantoral7672 Жыл бұрын
Welles was a great actor but he was insane if he actually thought Brando was beneath him. The worst you can say about Marlon was he spoke as he had marbles in his mouth but he acting talent was tremendous.

Boy was he wrong about everything! Well it was made 4 years before Star Wars got released, but if Hollywood isn't factory since then then I don't understand what does he mean by that. Just look at Disney alone. For every John Carter and Lone Ranger (love them both especially latter, but we taking about factory here, I.e. quantity) there are 24+ MCU flicks, Pirates 5 films, live action remakes of their own animated movies That is just Disney, now WB = 9 Harry Potter universe movies, DC comics based movies with right now coming to the point where THREE of different Batman actors will be in one medium space (Affleck and Keaton in Flashpoint, Pattinson in The Batman), two-three Jokers (Ledger (rip), Leto who is confirmed to return and Phoenix ofc), Lord of the Rings 6 movies And there is Fox with X-Men movies (and now they are with Disney so adding it to that) Universal with Fast and Furious 9 movies and at least 1 spin off Etc, etc, etc.
