I'm a Catholic. We should celebrate our belief like this. These wonderful hymns are as close as one can be to Him - He who is risen.

Coming from a hopeful Roman Catholic priest, I give my prayers to my brothers in the East and hope that they may bless me as well during my time of discernment. Absolutely wonderful and reverent music leaving the lips of these men. It's like hearing the voices of the cherubim and seraphim themselves. I get chills down my spine every time I listen to a hymn from Orthodoxy.

I had the privilege of performing Rachmaninoff's All Night Vespers in a choir of 140 voices about a decade back (after MONTHS of rehearsal). It was very challenging on many levels. We were all coached in Russian pronunciation, which is very different from the way that the English speaking palate makes words. The most technically challenging part of all was singing for an hour and a half unaccompanied and trying not to become progressively flat. It was the most moving music that I have ever sung in my life and tears well up when I remember doing so.

Our Father who art in Heaven! Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen ☦

The Russians do it the best at everything. This brings deep chills to my whole body with joyful crying but also crying from sorrow for my sin. I want so badly to come home to Holy Orthodoxy from the Roman West and the Russian Patriarch’s homily’s and speeches I can’t get out of my mind nor his face! Holy man…

Russian Orthodox is the most wonderful sacred music of all time and so very healing.
I'm Armenian and have attended the Armenian Orthodox Church and the chanting at those services are just beautiful. What a treat to hear one again. Simply amazing and what a sound those voices make. Puts sacred choral music a few steps above the normal hymn singing. Many Anthems are fantastic, too. Truly beautiful I am loving this. Thank you.,

"Let all mortal flesh keep silence, And in fear and trembling stand; Ponder nothing earthly-minded, For with blessings in His hand Christ our God to earth descendeth, Our full homage to command. King of Kings, yet born of Mary, As of old on earth He stood, Lord of Lords in human vesture In the Body and the Blood, He will give to ll His faithful His own Self for heavenly food. Rank on rank the host of heaven Spreads its vanguard on the way, As the Light of light descendeth From the realms of endless day; That the powers of Hell may vanish As the darkness clears away. At His feet the six-winged seraph, Cherubim with sleepless eye Veil their faces to the Presence, As with ceaseless voice they cry: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia God most high!" A wonderful sacred hymn originating in the Divine Liturgy of St James, used also in Western Christianity, uniting us in adoration of the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist.

These wonderful words from the liturgy of St James clearly show the awe and reverence for Christ that my heart longs for! Praise God for inspiring such words and such music. God wants us to worship in Spirit and in Truth, but also, in my opinion, with beauty. Look how He instructed the beauty of the Tabernacle and the Temple in the Old Testament! Look at the description of heaven we have in the book of Revelation! Hallelujah!

IMHO, these most beautiful chants are Slavic chants rather than orthodox (which are often more middle eastern/arabic sounding). These Slavic chants are so mystical, they bring the glory of heaven of our Lord Jesus Christ and the blessed Virgin, Saints and angels, down to our earth. Much Love from India
