Τhis Hymn gives thanks to the Virgin Mary, when she miraculously saved Constantinople from an attack by the Avars in 626 AD. when Emperor Heraclius was away with the Army where he was fighting to take back the Holy Cross from the Persians.

Greece won't get back Constantinople by its own, but there is a prophecy from one of the monks in Mount Athos prophesized that in the future Russian Army will take control of Constantinople and hand it over to Greece, then Russian army will take communion in Sophia Hagia. We have to wait and see if that prophecy is going to be fulfilled in time.

The name of this hymn is Ti Epermaho' and is sung to Our Theotokos for protection and sung usually during Easter Lent. It is indeed ancient and goes back to Constantinople and the Eastern Roman Empire.

The Theotokos spared Constantinople from the Persians hence the all night Akathist to her . All we Orthodox need to repent more and more so that the grace of god will fill the hearts of those who live in this city and worship again in the Ag Sophia . I fear it fell because of sin and that it remains in heathen hands because of our sin to this day. We must humble ourselves across the world to usher in Gods grace . Καλά Χριστούγεννα !

Our differences are not small . They are very big. There can be no nationalism in the Church. God gave us many languages and tongues , all to Praise and Glorify His Holy Name and His One , Holy, Catholic (not Roman Catholic but Universal) and Apostolic Church (not Churches). The Ypermacho was written in honour Of The Theotokos . After the Avars who were besieging The City ( Konstantinoupolis) were defeated . By unseen powers. Whatever they tried all was destroyed..The Emperor at that time was away Heracleus and was fighting The Persians to retake The holy Cross which they had taken From Jerusalem . He was Victorious.. and in his absence The city was saved by Unseen powers. This hymn Was written to Honour The Theotokos ( mother of God) who by her intervention saved the city...
