Orthophoto Using DroneDeploy and OpenDroneMap VLOG #4

Behind the scenes footage and walkthrough of our process to create a 2D orthomosaic photo (Orthophoto) using DroneDeploy and OpenDroneMap. We use this process for construction progress reports, agriculture, farming, real estate development and aerial surveying. We generally use the Phantom4Pro or Mavic drones for this process.

I dont at the moment. I didn't think it would be useful at the time since not many users would know much about it. If I get more interest will create one on how to do it with the bucket and linux servers on amazon and google cloud.

How much RAM does your setup have?

On the laptop 16GB which is okay for small renders up to 60 photos or so. However, on our server end, we now have 256GB RAM in parallel. Fast.

Hey, good stuff. How do you share 3d maps with your clients? Do you white label open drone maps and give them a log in? I’m considering doing some of this in Gippsland.

(1). We dont give access to our 3D inside the software. We rather prefer to export into the customer's software, like CAD etc. (2). If we did however want to share, we could do it easily since we are using Amazon Content Delivery. And we could give the public access to our internal server. Either user access or share options in Open Drone Map.

Interesting video thank you for sharing! I'd really like to know more about how you process imagery with QGIS or similar. For the purposes of agricultural surveys. Do you use RGB camera and VARI equation to obtain data or NIR camera?... Thanks!

Hi Michael - We use NDVI Cameras with Drone Deploy or open Drone Map software. Yes I do use QGIS, not an expert at it, but we have used it to process map data for our customers. Might do a video soon on it.

Hi, Mavic air 2, Mavic 3 classic can do this job? In the video i think you're using M2pro.

Mavic Air 2 -Yes only on iOS Mavic 3 Classic - Not compatible yet Aircraft is only compatible if DJI releases the API for that drone. Hope that helps.

hey, is there any free software for flying missions? dronedeploy is quite expensive just to get started…

You can use drone deploy to fly the mission - it's free. To process the maps it costs money. You can process maps with opendronemap, maps made easy and other programs. (Even photoshop can do it). Maps Made easy has a free app as well to fly.

can open drone map manually click on points to cleate a polyline and then export it for processing in another software for processing surface and contours (eg civil 3d, surfer etc)

We don't currently export just the shape out, however I believe you can export the shape in GeoJson file format for other software's. Ver 3.0.

Why am I unable to process? It is showing "Cannot process dataset" in WebODM. I am using only 10 images to create orthomosaic. Task Output: RuntimeError: filesystem error: cannot make canonical path: Operation not permitted [.]

Isn't that an issue with Docker? I'm using Web ODM 2.0 not the latest on a standalone install. Did you get your copy from Github or standalone version.
