Hi Jim, You are definitely in the professional category now, what a fancy beautiful chisel! Handel looks great!! I loved the comment "beat it as if it owes you money" paraphrased of course. I saw the notification this morning at work. But I thought I would wait until tonight to watch the video, it was tough to wait but I did! As always God bless and take care from your long-time California subscriber.

I didn't put much out this summer, when that happens my notifications go to the bottom of the viewers piles until I put a few videos out. It's kind of a pain but it is what it is.

Amazing work. I wonder if a press may help you get the handles pressed together more evenly and straight first go?

Jimbo, Kudos on the laser for your maker's mark! Also, if you're concerned about the steel in your handle possibly breaking, I've got a fix for you. Once you have the steel finished and tempered, when it's cooled down (obviously), just stick out your tongue and give it a lick. It should have a nice tang to it! I'm sorry, I can't help myself. Please don't block me for my bad jokes! lol

Nice work! I hope you have a good supply of ash for the handles...this year we found EAB infected ash trees down here about half hour northeast of Utica.

The ash problems actually generate more material for me. It works out. Hate to see it though.

Don't know if this would work for you but if you take a chunk of tool steal and grind it into a shape of your handle blanks, build a jig to hold it at just the right angle and put it on a swivel with a handle for leverage with a stop so it will not go too deep. You could have the boy, or even one of his less skilled friends pop out handle blanks by the dozens

You know I've had that exact thought, just need to get after if.

Did you ever put battens on the outside walls? Also you mentioned putting a sheathing on the outside. Here in Texas the UV destroys wood so fast. Agree with comments in last video about not building house extension.

I did. The sun damage is nothing like what you guys deal with.

Just wondering ... would a cone die on the press work for those sockets? It might take two or three graduating up to the desired dimensions but it might save some time. I'm a novice at this stuff, but it seems like that might work on a short piece like this.
