L2: Empuraan is a sequel to 2019 Malayalam action-drama-thriller movie Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. The movie stars Mohanlal and Prithviraj in the lead roles. It was also revealed that Prithviraj Sukumaran will have more lengthy role in Empuraan.
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal on Tuesday expressed his excitement about working with director Lijo Jose Pellissery. The actor took to Twitter to share the news with his fans, noting that he was ‘delighted’ to collaborate with Lijo, whose medium-budget spectacle Jallikattu was nominated as India’s official entry for the 93rd Academy Awards.
“I’m delighted to announce that my next project will be with one of the most exciting and immensely talented directors in Indian cinema - Lijo Jose Pellissery. The project will be produced by John and Mary Creative, Max Labs and Century Films,” tweeted Mohanlal, while sharing a few pictures from his meeting with Lijo and team.
Ram is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language action thriller film written and directed by Jeethu Joseph. It was jointly produced by Abhishek Films and Passion Studios. The film stars Mohanlal in the title role, along with an ensemble cast including Trisha, Indrajith Sukumaran, Samyuktha Menon, Adil Hussain, Durga Krishna, Prachi Tehlan, Anoop Menon, Saikumar, Suman, Chandhunadh, and Siddique. Debutant music director Vishnu Syam composed the film's music.
Principal photography of the film began on 6 January 2020. After a schedule break in February, filming was halted for around three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the delay, Jeethu scaled-up the film's size. It resumed filming in August 2022.

The film was shot extensively for 46 days in and around Thodupuzha in the same locations as Drishyam, and some scenes in Kochi. Anil Johnson composed the songs and score. Satheesh Kurup handled the cinematography and V. S. Vinayak edited the film.
Originally, the makers planned for a theatrical release, the producers later opted to release the film through the streaming service Amazon Prime Video. The film was released worldwide on 19 February 2021 to widespread critical acclaim, praising the narration style and performances.
