This right here! This is the origin sound of country almost rockabilly that we lost in the 80s and 90s and took a long ass detour....til now ❤
@magicvalley39802 жыл бұрын
I mean it’s marketing to some extent too, right? I love Orville but I’d argue his crossover appeal is largely due to being openly gay and having a high fashion aesthetic more than making more traditional country. Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw and Blake Shelton have been making music like this for years but those artists weren’t marketed to a hipper audience so they don’t have that kind of indie cred an artist like Orville or even Kacey Musgraves has. But their music is very similar.
@danielb.44612 жыл бұрын
@@magicvalley3980 Interesting observation. Orville is approaching country from a different perspective and leaving out the small-town mentality. Orville being gay completely contradicts everything that country personifies. He skips over the worst parts of 80s -90s country and delves into the classic old sound which is exactly what so much new-country avoids.
@danielb.44612 жыл бұрын
Just listened to Tim Mcgraw......not appealing at all.
@magicvalley39802 жыл бұрын
@@danielb.4461 I’m not knocking anyones music, I’m just saying, let’s acknowledge that his story and the glossy cinematography of videos like this are a big part of the draw. if you stripped the context away and left the music on its own, I really don’t think it’s all that different than the country pop that’s come out in the past twenty years. Artists like Lady Gaga work the same way. I don’t think they’re bad artists, I just think sometimes people credit them with being these profound musical innovators when the true innovation is their visuals and backstories.

Until a little over 2 months ago I didn't know about the existence of OP and I think as a gift from God to me, since I was going through a very dark time in my life, and from the music app on my cell phone I heard for the first time the song Hope to Die and then Death of Night, OMG his voice stopped my breath and made me cry. The melodies and the unique way of singing was something my senses had never experienced. This man and his band hooked me, without hesitation I searched my cell phone for all of his songs and C'mon Baby cry was the third song I heard and again without knowing how or why I couldn't hold back my tears and I was laughing at the same time, I think my soul knew before my mind that I had received a gift, because I didn't know the lyrics of the song or had I seen this video yet. Any artist or singer who, without trying, can bring warmth, tranquility, hope or happiness to people only with his talent and creativity or his inspiration, deserves the greatest support, admiration and respect from everyone, without a doubt he also deserves all my love and gratitude, because success has already been knocking on his door since 2019 and in 2024 I am sure it will be immense.🤩❤🩹

My theory? A lot of the material on Pony was experimental. He was still finding a distinctive voice. Show Pony and the stuff he's done with Paul Cauthen covering the Righteous Brothers solidified exactly what he wanted out of his performances. (seriously look up Unrighteous Brothers if you don't already know about them. It's gorgeous.) So now, he knows exactly what he wants to sound like for whatever he's doing and knows how to get that sound.

I always come back to this music video cause it's one of my favorites, it encourages men to be in tune with their emotions and un-learn all that toxic behavior they were taught growing up. To me, the music video starts out with Orville showing the audience they can be emotional, the audience clearly rejects this idea like how society rejects the idea of vulnerable men. But you can tell Orville was really singing it for that one man in the audience, showing him he can provide a safe space for him to show his emotions. It reminds me of how a lot of the time, where ever you go, LGBTQ+ and queer people will create safe spaces away from the regular heteronormative crowd for us to protect ourselves in. Orville brings this man to that safe space, where they celebrate his accomplishment of being vulnerable. They know it's a challenging thing, especially if you were raised like me to believe crying is a sign of weakness, but to this crowd it's a sign of strength. When it cuts back to him at the bar, I imagine that's how he perceived the lyrics of the song. He felt like he was given that safe space to be vulnerable. Music has an amazing thing of being able to connect with you regardless of your situation, and I believe Orville has said many times country is for everyone. It always has been. That's why I love his music though, he's showing me that I can appreciate a genre in a new way, which now gives me appreciation for older country as well. I feel included in something I always felt so distant from.

Not a fan of most country music, and this isn't really my thing either, and I'm straight,...but major respect for this artist. His voice is beautiful, his style is unique, and his balls are BIG.
