Great video Mike, many folks won't know what it'd be like travelling on such a fast train, but I gotta say, looking out at that angle for a period of time can upset your system.....I found that I had to look more forward than straight out of the window, especially in closer built up areas, it's not so bad when the visuals were so distance away. I also have to say, how smooth it all happens at that speed, if you compare it to our aging XPT train in NSW where you walk down the isles like a drunken sailor, on the shinkansen, you wouldn't know you're moving as you walk in the isle. my dream is to cycle tour in Japan.

I hear ya. The jolts you'll get from the XPT can knock you off your feet if your not ready. Yeah I found the shinkansen soothing to the point where it almost made me fall asleep. Don't know what it was a combination of the speed and repeating sound and subtle vibration with a nice cabin temperature.

How much does it cost to travel from Osaka to Kyoto by Shinkansen?

It is a very short trip, only 15 minutes. If you bought a ticket on the spot at the station it cost about US$15. Fun trip.
