@kittycathappy The change is from "wareshinobu" hairstyle for maiko in 1-2 years of study to "ofuku" for maiko in their more senior years of study. It is a symbol of seniority and the number of years maiko have dedicated to the profession. Generally, maiko study for 5 years before becoming geiko.

@kittycathappy They were referring to the warishinobu hairstyle being that of younger maiko and the ofuku being that of the more senior maiko, The older maiko had just gotten her hair styled in the ofuku style and went to show her okasan who told her to turn around so she could look at it and she said it was very nice and that it suited her well

They don't have time to clean up. The Maikos/Geikos are too busy with events, schooling, practicing, and getting their hair done. They only have 2 days off a MONTH. Okasan (mother) is busy with making sure the girls are booked for events and making sure the girls are making money to pay back their debts. They normally have a maid that will do the cooking/minimal cleaning etc. They also make the younger beginners do chores as well.

I'm surprised - it's not a first video of geisha I've watched, so I couldn't have noticed that their houses are in a mess. Clothes on the everywhere, uncleaned-up beds... They are women after all
