It gets overlooked because of how truly bad of a fighter Mayorga was in comparison, but this was honestly one of the best performances of Oscar's career. His punches were honestly perfect. Incredibly fast, accurate, crisp. He'd hit you with 6 devastating punches in 2 seconds and hop right back out of the box before you even looked up. As highly regarded as he is, I still feel like Oscar is slightly underrated in boxing memory. He was a nightmare in his prime.

Oscar has never been underrated, He was and still is respected by Elite boxers till date AS A BOXER, he only fought killers. He is manny pac mans favorite boxer even though he cooked him. Edit: Mayorga wasnt a bad fighter either many elite boxers avoided him for years, the guy just didnt take care of himself nor did he have disicipline, he smoked and drank often, during and post training. Kinda like chavez, chavez always drank smoked and did drugs throught his career but he was still a killer mayorga got some money and just fell off. Chavez would have been a scary dude had he taken better care of himself.

Mayorga for not starting boxing as a kid was pretty damn good , he got very far in the sport and is hopefully living off his earnings as a pro , oscar was so fun to watch, true proffesional with a killer instinct

Doubt he's doing well. Had an acquaintance in the DEA I knew who hated Mayorga from his time working in Managua. Said he fuck up and drag race down busy streets and just be a general pest. Don't wish him any ill though. He was an extremely tough and dangerous fighter. I'm guessing he busted quite a gew heads back home. And he did it on the big stage too. RIP Vernon Forrest.

I know Mayorga was acting like a cock (like usual) but I legitimately think this is a fantastic match. -Very great heat coming into it. -Fighters were making full contact through the whole fight. -Actual decent back and forth (Mayorga was clearly outclassed but he landed some very impressive and dangerous shots). -One of the most satisfying finishes to date. Classic match. Definitely in my Top 10.

According to boxing experts the way Mayorga carries himself in the ring shows that he didn't maximize his potential not having the best in training and conditioning. He is still unpolished despite his so many fights. He never learned and still repeat the same old bad habits and have not added anything more to his arsenals. If he had been shaped to his maximum abilities and conditioning we will never know how much more he can accomplish rather than just playing the role of the bad boy always fed to be beaten up by the on going legends of his era.
