This is a tinplate shooting game manufactured by a French company called Oscar Du Jouet. I would guess this dates back to the 1960s but this is only a guess because I could find next to no information about this company or its products online. If you know anything about the business or their games/toys, please do let me know in the comments.
Oscar Du Jouet appear to have specialised in toys which used magnets and indeed, this game is no exception. I was actually surprised at the design and engineering which has gone into this toy. The gun contains a large ball bearing which closes an electrical circuit for a millisecond when the trigger is pulled. This circuit activates an electromagnet which pushes a metal bar forward and this in turn knocks down the animal target but only if the target is in exactly the right place. The target board is turned by a small motor. Once the ball bearing moves through the contact point, the magnet is switched off and a spring returns the bar to its starting point.
There were a few faults with the game but nothing particularly complicated to fix. Unfortunately, I did run into a problem right at the end but I managed to overcome this with, what I can only describe as, an absolutely genius move which enabled me to finish the video rather than wait for a new part to be delivered! 😂 Enjoy!
