Quite a few masters of the piano in history, but Oscar is the best to ever display it! He's my personal GOAT! And this is one of the tightest trios ever!

How good is he? This tune is the source of quite a few Jaco Pastorius riffs. After hearing this, I became less of a Jaco fan and more of a Oscar Fan.

What is it with Canadian musicians accompanying themselves using their voice and the piano? Oscar Peterson and Glenn Gould come to mind. Actually my father who taught me jazz told me to sing the melody while I was improvising in order to keep me on track. I think I just answered my own question ;-) When it comes to Jazz Piano, it's Oscar P...you know me!

It's a given that Oscar is a monster. But the bass player is keeping up with him! And as a bass player I prefer electric bass because it lets me be more "mobile" and I just never enjoyed trying to tame that big monster even tho I have one and occasionally use it to make my videos just for variety in the look and feel of things, but I always use electric to record with. However, I don't play pure Jazz so there's that. This is way over my head lol! But this guy just quietly goes about his business and tames that beast lol! Oscar and Tatum. Close call, tho Tatum wrote the book and then Oscar came along and added some pages. But it's just too close to call tho I think Tatum has the edge in definition. The cleanness or clearness of his runs are from another planet. But again, very close call.

One of my all time favourite performances of all time that I've been listening to for decades. But I think the remastering has gone completely wrong. The piano has a lovely tone in un-remastered versions but in this version it sounds like a honky-tonk.
