Here after Jonathan Glazer's acceptance speech at the Oscar's several days ago...the parallels are absolutely uncanny. Both the films 'Julia' and 'Zone of interest' are about WW2 and the evils of the Nazis. In both speeches, both antisemitism and sionist aggression was denounced. In both cases, it took a great deal of courage. The only difference being, Glazer is jewish himself and was not booed, not on stage at least. And so, almost half a century later, maybe that was an improvement.

Redgrave is easily one of the finest actresses ever to grace the screen. Most critics thought so, most actors think so. @@michelrodrigues5686 And you deserve to have your opinion as well. We'd better let Streep in on this one because apparently she disagrees with us. I guess it comes down to how we come to our decisions. Most people gage by awards. I guess since McDormand has three best actress Oscars many might now start saying she's better than Streep. They both have three, but Alan Rickman said it best: actors don't win Oscars, roles do, and this is so true, and echoed in a statement by the great Glenda Jackson who is as good as ANY who had e ever lived, and I summarize: Many who should have won didn't win because the role wasn't showy enough, and she ended it with a classic statement: they certainly don't make you act any better. Yes, Vanessa was brave and I love her for her speech. Having said that: DAMN, John Travolta! Too beautiful for words.

Why don't we have nowadays speeches like this?
@claudev67087 жыл бұрын
simply because ads sponsor won't allowed it and I'm not sure politics and Academy or Grammy Awards are the place for that.
@appleslover7 жыл бұрын
because the want to thank the academy thousands of times for giving that golden thing without expecting, they are just doing movies just for the awards not for the art they calling it

Since these last comments, Meryl Streep's 2017 Golden Globe speech came close. Meryl had it easy though - no one booed her!

Because unless you're Meryl Streep or Tom Hanks it would be a very bad business decision.

The boo-ers are a disgrace. They showed themselves as criminals to humanity and how dare they interrupt this wonderful speech by this beautiful heroine. We live in a dark and corrupt world where our only sense of bearing is provided by beacon-holders whose belief and insistence on fighting for justice continue to lead us on in our fight against racism and fascism. I salute you, Miss Vanessa Redgrave.

Very gracious and courageous woman. While all of this was going on inside there were people protesting her outside by burning effigies of her. It was so serious that police had sharp shooters on rooftops just in case. And yes, she did end up being black listed because of her opinions.

From IMDb : "Sidney Lumet claimed that he wanted to cast Vanessa Redgrave in the film, but Paddy Chayefsky didn't want her. Lumet argued that he thought she was the greatest English-speaking actress in the world, while Chayefsky, a proud Jew and supporter of Israel, objected on the basis of her support of the PLO. Lumet, himself a Jew, said "Paddy, that's blacklisting!" to which Chayefsky replied, "Not when a Jew does it to a Gentile."

I would have objected on the grounds that I find watching her makes me queasy. She has a slithery voice, and her mouth wanders over her face in strange directions. But Chayefsky had the last word. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJa5ZHqmir5keJY

He was very wrong! Altered states proved that. Redgrave would go on to bigger and better things. Paddy would be dead. So there's THAT.
