He played a phenomenal pirate in the movie, it was 100% convincing. The other pirates were just spot on too. The acting just set the movie off and the way they created tension. I went to see the movie Captain Phillips. Oh, boy, was it good. I can see why they offered Tom Hanks the role of Captain Richard Phillips. Because he was quite the spitting image of the man himself. Then they offered Barkhad Abdi the role of Muse the Somali pirate. He was definitely the spitting image of Muse, and they couldn't have gotten a better one than Abdi himself. Abdi deserves either Academy Award or an Oscar for his performance of best villain in "Captain Phillips" as Muse the pirate.

I really hated the Somali pirates. But this movie gave me a new perspective. When the movie ended I could not help sympathize with those pirates. +wyatt I read your comment before the video had gotten to Barkhad, and I was really primed to look for condescension. I really didn't pick up any such vibe from anyone. He speaks in a deadpan, understated and matter-of-fact way about his experiences, and that comes off as humorous in a good way (which I think was deliberate on his part). Maybe you saw something I didn't, of course. I'm not saying you're wrong. Just giving my 2 cents.

I remember catching the first TV ads when the film first came out. I was stunned when I saw Abdi deliver his "I am the Captain now" line. Stunned, I tell you! And I have been fascinated by him and his story ever since. And now the Oscar nomination { I am sure I will stop crying about it any minute now}. Regardless, the kid got robbed. He was best supporting actor for the movie. If Tom Hanks did the movie for free, he would be just as rich. Greed plays a major roll in Jewywood. thats just the nature of the beast. that 65k was a window to greater things to come. many actors never make it or get recognised, even a measly interview. all actors are well aware your first appearance, you are lucky to even get oaid. they agree small fee for exposure.. it's just how hollywood works. tom hanks got paid peanuts when he first started..

This is the normal to a guy in his position at the time. Every single movie is like that! And 65K is a lot of money by the way, more that majorite of people receive in a entire year of work.

Some people in the cinema clapped/cheered when all the pirates were neutralized... apparently the entire message of the movie wen't over their stupid unintelligible heads.
@Eagle0watch7dv
@Eagle0watch7dv 10 жыл бұрын
But if you look at it in another way, its a testiment to how well this guy Barkhad Abdi and the rest of the pirates played their parts. You know you're a good actor when you can capture peoples emotions and make it seem like they're in the movie themselves. Thats why Barkhad Abdi is nominated for an Oscar.

Fair point, but this goes beyond the performances, which are superb. Clapping is a result of a poor understanding of the entire story, and the theme (as Greengrass intended).

Nib Bin the point is that no one wins. the pirates were kids doing someone else’s dirty work. they weren’t evil - they were being used hence when he said they got 6 million and hanks says ‘why are you doing this then’ - because they’re use doing this for a ring leader. no one wins when they get shot and killed

I love that Tom Hanks is interested in telling some truth in the movie. He understands that movies are movies, but tries to bring realism and truth into the picture as far as possible.

I wonder why they portrayed Captain Phillips as a hero when he was thought of as a jerk who disregarded safety protocols putting the entire crew at risk and never volunteered himself to be taken hostage to save the crew.

I don't mean to sound insensitive to Capt. Philips or anyone who has been effected by piracy... But Muse was a real ass nigga XD I hope Barkhad gets an award for best antagonist or what ever, or even nominated for an Oscar... because to be honest, he can't really portray any other villain that isn't a Somali or in African descent in my opinion.

Cap Phillips everyone Brilliant! My dad was NMU 40 yrs purser/chief steward. Started in 46 & retired in 86 & died 96. So true the comments about merchant men. I've been on countless cargo ships, while in port. I didn't look for errors - but for understanding. Seeing it was a way of connecting with my dad again. I worked on a cruise ship for 1.5 yrs as a photog in AK HI Vancouver & Mex I don't how dad did it all those 40 yrs in places some beautiful others dodgy some peaceful & others at war

If you haven't seen this movie... you should, it's very intense and great acting makes you forget you are watching a movie also if you open your eyes and see this in both the captain and the pirates point of view you will understand you can't just root for one side nor be against the other for both cultures have different ways of life one wanting to just deliver a simple job and the other of going to America where suppose according to he's dreams of leaving Somalia where the sun don't shine.

Oh wow! For Oscar's KZbin channel to be highlighting the movie along with the actors and director it's a strong indication that they're definitely gonna get a heads-up for nominations. Here's my speculated nominations for the movie: - Best Motion Picture - Best in Directing - Best Actor ("Tom Hanks") - Best Supporting Actor ("Barkhad Abdi") - Best Adapted Screenplay

Exactly. He was very much the spitting image of Muse, and they couldn't have gotten a better one to play the role of Muse than Barkhad Abdi himself. He deserves an Academy Award or an Oscar for his best performance as Muse the Somailian pirate.

They tried to make the cast of the movie look exactly like the real life crew members, its not just Muse. It's pretty crazy actually it looks like all of the actors are the actual crew members.

I know. Tom Hanks was very much the spitting image of the Captain Richard Phillips himself, and they couldn't have gotten a better one other than Hanks. Still, all the others that looked like the real crew members themselves, they did such good jobs, and they couldn't have gotten any better ones.
