The Amiga Operating system was just that... an operating system for the computer. A lot of the other items you'd expect were on the other disks and third party stuff. The intuition errors you were getting were due to the clock being open (behind mum). The desktop couldn't close to assert the new settings as programs couldn't deal with it being altered while they were open. The one program running at the end stopping you from quitting was the RexxMaster program ("doing nothing") and confused a lot of people at the time. Rexx was a system that allowed programs to intercommunicate and script actions in any program in a similar way to the same stuff on the Mac that most people never find, either.

I have a question: If the OS only shows 4 colors, how is it able to display a full color pallet at 12:00?

yes its trick xD. it can show more colors in this 4 color palette its just reduce them. and they did not open screenmode.more colors more memory it need run it. if you have stock 512k memory you are out memory fast. if change 8 color it would look same only icons get more colors "if they have" basic workbench color are 4 color.who need 16million color icons xD

While Workbench uses 4 colors by default, that's just to give more memory for other things. In fact, the OS can show more colors, but not in default "Workbench Screen", which is configured as 4-color Screen. A "Screen" in Amiga OS is sort of a window(that Mum dragged at 16:20) that contains actual windows, and each Screen can have different graphics settings(like resolution and color depth). What you are seeing at 12:00 is actually a new Screen, probably configured as 32 color mode(or possibly 16). "4 colors in non-boosted machine" is not really true at all. Even the Amiga 1000 had ability to show 32 colors at once without using any tricks. Also, AmigaOS 3.5 and later did start using more colors in default Screen, as well as introducing new icon format that supports more colors.

Just go into Preferences and select "Screenmode" and then you can select more (or less) than 4 colors.

last version of Amiga OS is AmigaOS 4.1 FE which was released in 2014, it is available as digital download for $30, Classic version can be emulated on PC but it has limitatins (mainly RAM and graphic card limitations)

Another great video! I suggested you try a later version of Amiga Workbench/AmigaOS some time ago. I used Amiga computers as my main computer system for over 10 years, so I know a lot about them. Unfortunately, Diana is used to/has been brainwashed into the Microsoft Windows way of doing things, which is why her mouse clicks didn't work in the way she expected. The left mouse button is used for pointing and clicking, while the right mouse button is held down to reveal menus. The window buttons are called gadgets and the desktop is called Workbench, because Apple sued Digital Research over GEM, so Commodore Amiga Inc decided to use different terms, and they wanted to have a quite different look and feel from the Apple Mac. The window gadgets work as follows. The top left gadget closes a window, the top right gadget pushes a window from the front to the back, or from the back to the front depending on its current position, while the gadget to the left of the front/back gadget is the minimize/maximize gadget. The Amiga used a revolutionary system where screens containing the Workbench or individual programs could be laid on top of or behind each other, then you could hold the left mouse button down and drag the current screen down to reveal another screen behind it. Modern graphics chips and cards can't cope with this, except by Amiga emulation. You can also click the screen depth gadget in the right hand corner of the bar at the top of the current screen to send it to the back and see what's behind it. It's a pity you write protected the system disk. When the error message telling Diana to close all the windows except drawers (folders/directories) appeared, why didn't she just close all the windows before clicking Retry?! How more obvious could it be? Another example of Microsoft Windows brainwashing. I hope you now understand how the windows, screens, and mouse work under Amiga Workbench 3.1.

I have to admit, I never understood why the Workbench as a window was the default. Love my Amiga and Workbench, but I always chose Workbench as backdrop right away and saved it. I mean, I am fine if someone wants to choose for it to be a Window, but I always thought that was confusing and never should have been the default. Also, when I got my Amiga, I got an external floppy drive and it came with a file manager program (CLIMate), which made it much more useful. Her main issue isn't figuring out that Amiga, but the fact that it is different from what she knows... She'd get it eventually and not mind it... I remember after I had taught my mom how to use an old word processor (using command key options for formatting) and she eventually figured it out. Then we moved to Windows and I went to teach her a GUI word processor and she said "I'll never figure this out..." I told her she was able to figure out the more difficult program, this would be easy. ;-)

Reason why this OS had no Software was the Amiga 1200/4000 came bundled with a bunch of Programms like Digita Wordworth, Deluxepaint and so on. In the much older Version 1.3 their was at least an Text Programm called Notepad. I used an Amiga1200 with a whopping 2MB RAM and 160MB HDD back in the 90s before I got my first 486 PC. I guess the Amiga was mostly used here in Europe.

Select the "Show All Files" function in menu... Some files on the disk don't have .info files that creating for every file and folder icon in Amiga FS. That's why you saw nothing in Ram Disk.

It's funny how those classic operating systems are at the same time more logical to use and confusing for the modern user. All those "close all except drawers" were just waiting for the clock to be closed. The still running program was "NoFastMem" (one of the programs you should never run). And you turn off the computer by looking if the disk LED is blinking and if it isn't then just turn it off. The Workbench 3.1 is missing the "Notepad" program. You would usually get GoldED for text editing tasks.
