Very nice tour around the Ultralite pattern. I often wanted to experience just that. Thanks

One the years i would love to get a ride! Been going to Osh for 35 yrs. Ultralight has always been my favorite place!! I appreciate the whole video and the feel for what actually goes into taking a ride around the pattern! 3rd time ive watched this video. Wont be the last time..😂😂😂

The problem with giving people rides is that the pilot sets himself up to be sued should anything unfortunate happen. I turn people down frequently. It's not worth it.

We ended up scooting it to 10:00 🕙 and STILL waited 40 seconds for the takeoff roll to start. 😱🤷🏻♂️🫣

It looks like the ultralight pattern had plenty of clear ground in case of engine issues. Great planning

I enjoyed your video I've never been there and it was nice to see the planes taking off and what's happening over to the other side would even a detractor there with a tram on the back very cool thank you

Good job! I just had to figure out what kind of tail you were looking at while waiting in line and decided that it must be an AirCam.
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, it was an air cam.

Noticed you went around as the runway was occupied when on final - what was the process between that and the guy who made an orbit at that point and got involved in a mid-air?
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
The go-around you saw me do in the video was the correct procedure. Stay in the pattern, climb back up to 300 ft, take a lap, and try again.

18.5 minutes total for 6 minutes in the air, two circuits around the patch, noticed greatly expanded aircraft parking down in the South Forty !!....Nice view !!..David Clarks come in handy eeeah.....
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
Yeah those David Clarks definitely came in handy... my Lightspeed Zulu 3 headset crapped out on me on the way to Oshkosh. The expanded parking altered the ultralight pattern this year, giving us a little more of a base leg to stabilize our approach before making that tight turn to final.

Wish I could have heard the chatter. Thanks for the ride.
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
There really wasn't any chatter. We have a frequency for monitoring only, but it stays quiet unless something happens.

Are all these motorhomes and trailers for the people who attend the event? Huge crowd!

I think the attendance was around 600-650k.

Thanks for sharing. Up to what (weight / speed / engine hp?) ultralights are to land on this strip? Would VL3s need to land here, too? Or are they expected to land with the big boys? What is the treshold between ultralight and normal plane? I believe it may be different in the USA than in Europe, hence my question.
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
Pretty much anything that meets light sport can land here (1320 lbs, 120 kts max) although they want the certified aircraft to use the main runways. Champs, taylorcraft, etc.
@Beerbatter1962 Жыл бұрын
Been to Sun & Fun a number of times, but never Oshkosh. Hoping to go some day. The hard left needed at very last second to line up for landing seems like unnecessary risk. Why can't they line up further out?
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
They don't want us flying over parked airplanes, so we need to hug the trees and stay over the service road. That hard left took a little extra effort since we had a crosswind pushing me to the right. You may have noticed the wind sock when I landed.
@Beerbatter1962 Жыл бұрын
@scottgotwings Got it. Thanks for the reply. I've had my dreams set on an Aerolite 103 for a while now. But really want something that will take floats. Other option is Adventura. Cheers.
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
@Beerbatter1962 I think you can get something on a quicksilver as well. I'm thinking it's a mono float. That might work for you as well.
@Beerbatter1962 Жыл бұрын
@@scottgotwings Thanks for the tip. That is definitely a viable option. Seems not too many float options that keep an ultralight in the ultralight category. But I think I read somewhere recently that they now allow some extra weight for amphibious conversions.
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
@Beerbatter1962 I think that extra weight limitation is for light sport aircraft, not ultralights. Also, the mono float I saw was on a Kolb Mark 3. I did, however see some videos of quicksilver, both single and 2 place with floats. You might need to get your sport pilot's certificate with a float plane rating to legally do what you want.

They keep you under 400 feet? is that the SOP for the ultralight field? How many Challengers showed up? I hope next year we can get the factory to have a presence.
@scottgotwings Жыл бұрын
300 ft agl, and only 2 challengers. You can see the other one land ahead of me when I did a go-around.

This video is the published pattern for the ultralight field. From the video I seen the helicopter was in the correct pattern and the Gyro came from who knows where and cut right across it before the 45 degree turn to final, hitting the heli.

By the time you are in the air, it will be time to land. Fuel isn't very cheap and engine run times are tough on the wallet. Take care, Be safe.
