Crowned Osun priest here. A son of Oshun. Osun is so much more than a “goddess of lust sensuality and love” limiting Osun to those things is limiting her power over the universe and over the world. Osun is creation. Oshun is inner power and inner self love. Oshun teaches us how to love ourselves when no one else is around to do It for us, Oshun has many paths, the vulture who went as far as no one else could, the one who gave It all. When the male Orishas disrespected her, didn’t honor her purpose in helping to create the world, she didn’t argue, she didn’t fight to prove her worth, she took her stuff and left and went to the moon, she knew the world wouldn’t be without her sweet waters, sweet rivers, flowing happiness. That is Osun energy, Osun with the sword, Osun who fumbles in the mud, Osun who laughs cause she knows no one will ever love her the way she loves herself. Oshun and Yemaya are my mothers now and guardians. Since my own family is toxic. I used to be hounded by the world, but Yemaya came to me in my dreams. Years later, running away from an evil man, Oshun led me to a beach where two vultures were standing. I knew it was her, showing me that it was time to push him far from me. I love Oshun. She only wants my healing and my dignity. With her I feel as though she truly protects me and actually and truly wants the best for me, for no harm to come to me, and keeps harm away from me, like a mother should.
