Hi Johnny, I agree, right now I’m reviewing what videos to do for this year and this is kind of high up on the list, no promises but maybe I’ll redo it.

Hey Lonnie, thanks for making these series of videos especially for explaining the SDK history which I found pretty confusing. I am just away to do some work that involves some PI programming, I guess you recommend going with the AF SDK 2012 but is there any chance of having issues using that on an old PI server? Think it is about 5 years old, could be a bit more. Basically looking to start my learning at the best possible place but also deliver the best possible solution.

Hi Ryan, Thanks for the feedback! I think you should be OK to use the newer AF SDK, OSIsoft is pretty committed to backward compatibility with all their products. Of course you should do some testing first just to make sure. I would use the AF SDK if possible, at some point, the PI server will need to be upgraded anyway.

Lonnie Bowling We ended up opting for using PIOLEDB instead as I believe it had less licensing implications but it was still good to have a poke around with the SDK and see how it worked.

You now need to install that AF.chm file separately from the SDK. The original download you see Lonnie use here gives a different AF.chm file and the documents/tutorials download gives the file AFSDK.chm which has the actual SDK.
