OSKA | LIVE @ Reeperbahn Festival 2021

In der Ergründung des Persönlichen finden Songwriter*innen immer wieder Inspiration für Lieder und Texte, denen es gelingt, das Alltägliche mit dem Magischen zu vereinen. Maria Burger hat diese Kunst schon auf ihrer Debüt-EP „Honeymoon Phase“ auf eiem Niveau realisiert, das sonst Jahre über Jahre an Erfahrung braucht. Vielleicht auch deshalb, weil sie in eine musikalische Familie geboren wurde, von frühester Kindheit an durch ihre Mutter mit irischer Traditionsmusik und durch ihre Brüder mit Rock, Metal sowie Hip-Hop in Kontakt kam - ihr ältester Bruder Oskar ist dementsprechend Namenspate ihres Projekts. So schreibt die Niederösterreicherin als Oska melancholische Popsongs über das Kennenlernen und Verlassenwerden, die nie endenden Wogen des Lebens, über die wir alle im Laufe der Jahre gleiten. Mal verlieren wir uns in denen, die wir lieben, dann wieder in uns selbst. Beides kann wunderschön sein - oder zu einem Albtraum geraten. Es ist diese Ambivalenz, die auch Songs wie „Distant Universe“ oder „Lousy T-Shirt“ prägt und in denen Oska einen eleganten Mittelweg zwischen Pop, Folk und Soul findet.
Vom 22.-25. September fand das Reeperbahn Festival 2021 nicht nur vor Ort sondern erneut auch im umfassenden Livestream statt. Seit dem Debüt im Jahr 2006 hat sich das Reeperbahn Festival zu einem der wichtigsten Treffpunkte für die Musikwelt entwickelt und zeigt, wie sich ein überbordendes musikalisches Line-Up mit musikwirtschaftlichen Interessen und zivilgesellschaftlichem Engagement verbinden lässt.
Neben Konzerten umfasste das Programm auch Formate aus der Bildenden Kunst oder Virtual Reality sowie ein thematisch vielfältiges Film- und Literaturangebot. Im Rahmen von Sessions, Showcases, Networking Events und Award-Shows konnten Fachbesucher*innen des Reeperbahn Festivals Musik neu denken, erleben und hören.
Unsere Festivals finden im Zeichen des Miteinanders statt- Rassismus, Sexismus, Homophobie und Ausgrenzung finden bei uns keinen Platz.

In their exploration of the personal, songwriters constantly find inspiration for songs and lyrics that succeed in combining the everyday with the magical. Maria Burger has already mastered this art on her debut EP “Honeymoon Phase” at a level that would normally take years and years of experience. It might also be because she was born into a musical family and was exposed to Irish traditional music through her mother and to rock, metal and hip-hop through her brothers from an early age - her eldest brother Oskar’s name providing inspiration for her project. As Oska, the Austrian artist pens melancholy pop songs about getting to know someone and being abandoned, the never-ending riptides of life that we all skim over as the years go by. Sometimes we lose ourselves in those we love, then again in ourselves. Both can be beautiful - or turn into a nightmare. It is this ambivalence that also characterises songs like “Distant Universe” or “Lousy T-Shirt”, in which Oska finds an elegant middle ground between pop, folk and soul.
From September 22-25, Reeperbahn Festival 2021 did not only take place on site but also in a comprehensive livestream once again. Since its debut in 2006, Reeperbahn Festival has become one of the most important meeting points for the music world and shows how an exuberant musical line-up can be combined with music business interests and civil society engagement.
In addition to concerts, the programme also included formats from the visual arts or virtual reality as well as a thematically diverse film and literature offering. In the context of sessions, showcases, networking events and award shows, Reeperbahn Festival professionals were able to think, experience and listen to music in a new way.
Our festivals take place under the sign of togetherness - racism, sexism, homophobia and exclusion have no place here.
