The only people who die on everest now a days either disobey orders from people who know, travel on further without sherpas or don't have the the money to afford being helped out of a situation they probably got themselves into with greed and stupidity in the first place. Hell, if you have $60,000 dollars lying around, they'll basically be a human donkey and carry you and your kit to the top. Everest isn't some dramatic, unrealistic goal that is virtually impossible anymore. It's the exact opposite, it's a theme park filled with thousands of people who pay a little extra to get to the front of the line and alot extra to get a personalized tour from the staff. That waiting line of "climbers" on the rope is a bit ridiculous, no? That should be a big red flag to the 'expedition' companies that there are too many people on the mountain and they need to spend some of all that money they get to attach AT LEAST 1 more rope line up there that runs parallel to this one! WTH?? Why not have an 'up' line and a 'down' line? It's starting to look like an amusement park for people with too much discretionary income. Didn't Russell Brice actually cancel a summit attempt for his entire group, halfway up the mountain one year because of just too many people? Ridiculous.

Knowing every single person climbing up and down the mountain minus the sherpas had to pay 30 grand at the very least to be up there is insane. Just wish they had more precautions when it comes to inexperienced tourists. Maybe they could have it to where there’s a certain route for more experienced mountaineers and another one for novice ones. That way the slower ones can go at the pace they feel comfortable with and the more seasoned climbers can be able to summit faster without being stuck behind someone who slows everyone else down.

Via a USB connected to a large battery carried in my chest pocket. Even with that, it would not work until the way down on summit day.

Неужели китайцы не могут повесить две веревки, на подъем красную, на спуск синию?! Муровейник какой то. sorry that not english
@OSMAdventures6 жыл бұрын
Спасибо. Мы используем две веревки на некоторых участках, но двойная веревка удваивает работу - и вдвойне опасна - для команды альпинистов Шерпы, которые делают фиксацию. Один канат работает, но он замедляет скалолазание.

Thank you so much for uploading this video, I enjoyed watching it very much. It seems like you really need the great virtue of patience when you are climbing this mountain! I wonder if people realize that. I was amazed by how much closer the summit looked at camp 4, compared to camp 3. Glad you made it and came back safe and sound.

Wow looks amazing, what an adventure! I've seen in the comments that you are a doctor so I was wondering do many people with asthma or any respiratory problems ever try to climb Everest and do you think it is a bad idea for anyone with said problems to try that kind of altitude?
@OSMAdventures5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Asthma is a big spectrum of severity... Some with mild asthma absolutely could do this. But... it is a very demanding respiratory situation, with profoundly dry and cold air, hour after hour, day after day... for months. It really is challenging for people living with asthma. Only one way to find out: Climb smaller, progressively higher and colder peaks first. And, they should see their doctor first, too.

Stupid Question: Why isn't there two ropes for groups going up and groups going down?
@OSMAdventures7 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. We DO use two ropes for several of the most exposed sections, but every meter of rope places the fixing team at risk... double the rope, double the risks. For most days, in most sections, one is enough. Except, when it isn't. And then, we just make do.
@tomaszbetkowski44126 жыл бұрын
the crowd of people is not big enough to use two ropes
@MikeGreenwood516 жыл бұрын
So could that rope cope with the weight of say a tenth of those climbers hurtling down then hitting the bottom? About 120stones 5,600lb about 2 metric tons.

Thanks Pixxie. All of us on the IMG expedition made it home safely. To do that, some decided to turn back below the summit, a wise decision. I hauled a 24000 mah lithium battery to the top, and ran a USB cable to the GoPro... even so, it was too cold for it to work on the summit. I'm curious what you think of hyperbaric chambers aiding people. Such the one woman who recently completely "The Lighting Ascent" of Everest in 8 days by using a hyperbaric chamber to acclimatize to altitudes, literally while at home before even coming to Everest. If more people follow this method, it could greatly reduce congestion on the mountain. But that would likely only be possible for individuals who already know the mountain or are very experienced in climbing and summiting other peaks. I understand the time spent on the mountain acclimatizing and moving from camp to camp and back down is also time spent familiarizing oneself with the technical aspect of climbing the mountain as well. I'm curious about your thoughts on it. If you believe it would be an efficient way for experienced climbers to make the ascent and reduce congestion... Or if it might potentially be a way for inexperienced individuals to attempt to climb for less money (less time spent on the mountain = less money, essentially) and cause too many accidents or deaths compared to combating congestion.

Thanks much. What a nice question. Hypobaric (not hyPERbaric), yes it is a great question. Many of us who live at sea level, myself included, are fans of hypoxic (normobaric) conditioning, both at sleep and with exercise. I did this for months before both Everest expeditions.... it did not hurt! For me, personally, it absolutely would NOT replace a careful, gradual acclimatization on the mountain. I feel that I acclimated well, but I do not have enough innate adaptability to "short cut" the usual process, via any system (I use Hypoxico). But, some others may really be able to cut a few weeks of the process... if so, good for them! However, I caution people NOT to count on this, and NOT to figure this out on an 8000M peak. I hope this helps. Please be well.

I would love to do this someday, however I’m asthmatic it’s not possible for my breathing to be restricted or I would have a full on attack immediately & shut down. If it’s true, I heard it said climbing the summit you feel like you breath so much but you can’t get enough oxygen, like running and then trying to breath thru a straw, that’s what a asthma attack feels like while someone stands on your chest. I have to live the dream through people’s pics and go-pros. Thanks for posting it.

@OSMAdventures6 жыл бұрын
What an interesting impression. In my opinion, using the right technique and having real experience at high elevations is important for a good Everest expedition. When that is absent, things can go terribly wrong. See www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/12/18/sports/everest-deaths.html and www.nytimes.com/2017/12/29/sports/mount-everest-letters.html and pottinger.net/osm/expedition/everest-2016/

maybe a silly question . But why can 2 ropes not be fixed ? one for way up and one for way down ? Would it really be that hard to do ? would save all that arsing about clipping and unclipping to let people by . would be a lot safer to .
@OSMAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave. Sadly, yes, that would double the work and thus the hazard for the fixing team. This portion of the route is very high and very exposed. We do benefit from two lines in a few pinch points, but that is the exception. Ideally there would be fewer climbers on the mountain... I sense this is unlikely to happen, for many reasons.
