This is exactly the back comparison I was looking for. Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed comparison. I have the Osprey now but am leaning toward the hyperlite pack. I was mostly concerned with comfortability, weight, and water resistance. Your video addresses all of my concerns. Thank you and may your hikes go well!! I haven’t seen any of your other videos yet but I’ll be watching them soon.

Great Video. The interesting thing about this is a heavier pack may make you suck wind a little more but if it carries better it might not cause pains the lighter packs cause. I did an AT hike in 2005 using a Granite Gear Vapor Trail pack. It was a 2 pound pack that was very comfortable for me. The thing I really like about the dynema packs is they do not absorb water. If I were to do another thruhike both the pack and tent would be dynema. Hate dealing with water soaked pack and tent. Good luck. I will be following your hike.

I have osteoporosis of my spine, so I use a Gregory facet only weighing 2.6lbs, it’s a much more comfortable pack than 2 different ultralight packs I’ve tried. I was miserable with the ultralight packs and returned them. My base weight with winter gear is only 15lbs with the Gregory pack.

About 5 1/2 years ago when I was looking for a larger pack, I tried an HMG, GG Crown2 60, a couple Osprey Atmos AG (50 & 65), and a Gregory. The HMG & GG didn’t feel that great packed with my gear, the Gregory was better, but with the Ospreys I could barely tell it was there. I ended up going with an Atmos 50 AG and haven’t regretted it. My max weight with it has been about 35lb and it’s very comfortable at that weight. A few months ago I saw the GG Crown2 60 on sale for a crazy low price, I’d really dialed in my packing since trying one out so I bought it just for the hell of it. Despite all the straps being narrower and less padded, with about 25lb (gear for a winter overnight) I found it very comfortable on the short hike I took it on. Almost as comfortable as my Atmos, actually. I’ve been told that once you get much over 30lb the lack of a frame starts getting noticeable, but that’s something I’ll have to check out before long. I may end up having to use my Aether 70 AG for the coldest weather.

I have the Osprey Atmos 65 and just pulled the trigger for the hyperlite mountain gear southwest 2400 . Went from 65liters to 40 liters which I almost want to return for the 3400 but maybe it might force me to keep my pack lighter.

Good luck with that! I nearly manage to fit what I “need” into my 3400! I don’t know how the ultra lighters do it!

@@AbsoluteAmateurHikes I'm not ultralight lol Hilleberg Rogen 5lbs ,western mountaineering alpine lite 20 sleeping bag and Therm-a-Rest Xtherm sleeping pad . I was just at REI and had the 3400 in my hands and thought it was too much .

I have 2500 hyperlite… it’s a great lightweight pack. The osprey has way more cushion and support

brother, weight is absolutely everything...I'd splay that pile out onto a table and stare at it for weeks....looking at every single item and stuff sac and ask why...everything is already in two bags in your pack....how many more are required? I would think there is no choice between these packs...its HMG all the way. With the duplex, you're on your way. 20 lbs all in with water, fuel, and a bear can....thats the end game. Stare at the pile. Everything's better when its lighter. Best of luck old man. Take it super slow and easy.
