fun fact for whatever reason you can get the unlimited fire rune effect from the tome of fire when using ibans blast. you don't get the damage boost but having unlimited fire runes with ibans blast is nice. my guess is that since you cant boost the damage jagex decided it wouldn't cost you charges.

This is the case with any spell that requires fire runes. I wasn't saying it doesn't count as fire runes for ibans blast. Only that you dont get the 50% boost

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but the Mystic Smoke Staff, not sure about the Smoke Battlestaff, has a 10% damage boost when using the standard spellbook making it pretty useful when combining it with the Tome of Fire.

Get a Kodai asap, incredibly good for bursting/barraging. There was a reddit post recently on 07scape which showed that kodai is almost 200m cheaper, has more dps and is cheaper to use then max mage with a master wand when bursting/barraging. Tl;dr : Kodai with proselyte or even monk robes is better then max mage and a Master's wand

Keep it up and if you have an elemental staff you need a stack of air runes since earth and fire strikes need them. Since this is RS 2 the actual name for OSRS another choice for mages is using Runite plate armour or metal armour. Saw this today

one thing you should have mentioned is void has same accuracy as ahrims with better defenses and does not degrade, also while boots of brimestone arent mage specific it should be noted for its positive mage attack and high defenses

iban staff + tome of fire is op. 50 atk 50 magic req. upgraded iban staff. you only need 1 death run per cast. 25 max dmg. 700k for tome 200k for iban staff upg. iban staff don't take charges from the tome of fire but yous till get unlimited fire runes with at least 1 page in the book

If you're only just starting with made, you're probably low level and can't wear much stuff anyways so there's not a lot of options. Magic has very few lower level options in general (Jagex tried to fix that with the Warding skill but it didn't pass). I sectioned the guide for different levels and what not. You'll need to at least tell me your magic lvl if you want me to help more than this guide lol

You have a high level, trident of seas or trident of swamp would do well, depends of your money for each, one cost 50k other 5milion, for 3 more max dmg.

If you're using a fire spell then yes it will use a charge. Technically the burnt pages are used from the 50% damage bonus, NOT from just using fire runes. That's why if you alch with the book it will not use any charges

Where does Thammaron's Sceptre fit into this? Specifically looking at the uncharged version - is it a good option for PvM from 70-75?

It's about as good as a master wand for those levels, which isn't horrible. But in general you're gonna get really slow kills at those levels (depending on what you're fighting too) so I don't really suggest using PvM to train 70-75 unless you're using ancients. This sceptre can't autocast ancients

Ahrim's > Infinity for sure. Though infiinty has more set pieces than Ahrim's. So Infinity Boots for instance are still good to have (until you can upgrade to eternal boots)

You’re level has NO EFFECT on damage dealt for example a level 75 caster can hit 20 with fire wave and a level 99 can still only hit a 20 this is always true for SPELLBOOK SPELLS (built in spells do scale) magic strength from gear, the tome of fire and the smoke battle staff are the only ways to up the damage of a given spell and all multiply so fire wave with tome of fire smoke staff and a 17% strength bonus would calculate as follows 20x1.1x1.5x1.17=38 max hit

It depends what you're fighting. For example being on task you'd use a Slayer Helm (i). Farseer helm isn't a bad default for a mage helm though. Or an Ahrim's hood if you haven't done the quest

You don't have to pick a class in OSRS so you can use both a sword a staff. You'll just need the corresponding attack or magic level to wield the weapon

Book of darkness is ok. It gives +10 mage accuracy, and +5 prayer. Mage accuracy is rarely that important, though not useless. The prayer bonus is pretty solid, but in general the book isn't super useful

Nightmare staff isn't good unless you add an orb to it (which are very expensive) Smoke staff is alright with the tome of fire as long as you're using fire spells ofc. Generally Iban's blast until lvl 75, then switching to a trident is the way to go though
