Keep in mind for at least some of these, the answer is simple - Friends was released at a time when online streaming wasn't really a thing, so it wasn't exactly like people could go through and rewatch and pick out potholes like we can today. Continuity just wasn't as much of a concern.

There are a lot of other mistakes as well. 1. Joey and Chandler's bathroom, arrangement of toilet seat is inconsistent throughout the seasons 2. what happened to the pheobe's plan of relaxi taxi? 3. Pheobe didnt work for almost 2-3 seasons but still had no money problems. 4. Ross's apartment hallway, sometimes it was long, sometimes there was a wall. 5. how did Ross bring his cut in half couch back to the store, he was unwilling to pay the delivery fees for the couch, yet he somehow took the broken couch back to the store. If I sit down to think more, i'd probably find 100 more, even with all these mistakes its the best show EVER.

I did think about the phobe one like okay Joey is the only one with money problems...but you never mention work. I totally caught that with Ross's place too I'm like okay did he move? Does he have TWO apartments? What is this? Even in my most not paying attention moments, the ice cream one jumped out at me because I remember thinking okay that is such a dumb reason to not like ice cream. Then when he dated the young girl I was like.....okay am I supposed to get the point that he does things he doesn't like because he likes her that much?

The wedding venue is kinda discussed. Chandler and Monica fight about Monica getting her dream wedding and spending all of Chandler's savings. Then they make up after Chandler says what he hopes for their future together.. they opt for a cheaper wedding.. therefore maybe the museum venue was expensive.

When I looked back on that episode, I noticed that chandler didn't really act shocked over the prom video. Joey was the one who exclaimed "some girl ate Monica," and Monica replied, "oh shut up, the camera adds ten pounds," to which chandler then said, "how many cameras are on you?" Sure, it probably comes off a little like he didn't know, but you also have to remember that that is just chandler being chandler. He saw an opportunity for a joke and took it. But it was actually Joey who seemed genuinely surprised. And joey makes sense as he didnt meet Monica until he moved in with chandler and she was already thin. I don't think chandler was surprised monica had once been fat, but maybe a little surprised over being reminded how fat she was.

What the writer's basically said on DVD commentary : A lot of these mistakes are made because the we didn't write down stuff in a book we could go back on and look at so we forgot alot of what was said.

Hmmmm.. If they only had access to documents documenting what was said and not.. I don't remember... Aren't they called manuscripts? I'd figure it's not hand written and so it has to have been available in one form or another. I refuse to believe they deleted all the manuscripts from the face of the earth after every season. It's there on a hard drive or something, available. Anyway, I don't really care about the mistakes. I watch the show every single day whilst doing other stuff and I love it deeply! My point was just to hint at the writers not doing their job properly when it came to those details and plot holes, and not even properly putting up a kind of "mood board" listing all important details of characters to be referred to whenever writing stuff. That'd what I'd have done if I wrote characters. It's a cheap excuse from them, that's all. Now I'm gonna do some practise (I'm a musician), and so I'm gonna put on season four (my favourite) in the background

By the end of season 10 Monica's apartment door was not the same door. When Monica goes on a honeymoon the door get chopped down and the new one is put up. Season 7 we do see Monica turns 30 but they were all sitting around the table reminiscing about their 30th birthdays so doesn't necessarily mean it happened in season 7.

Something I noticed while watching the other day was the episode where they are at the beach and Ross dumps Bonnie to get back with Rachel. Well, Chandler pee'd on Monica and that same day they all go back to NYC. In that same episode, on that same day (because they are all wearing the same clothes), Chandler says "Sometimes at night I can still hear the screaming", and Joey says "That's because I do it to freak you out", yet there hasn't been a night since the incident... something small but it's bothered me lol

Shows like these are written by many writers, which means that there might be a lot of inconsistencies since probably not all the writers know the other stories by heart. Not to mention that changing some details normally can lead to more interesting plots in a sitcom that is supposed to be watched one episode at a time, not to be necessarily considered as a good story overall. Character development is another thing that is hard when the show is this big, because a lot of people is creating their personalities to fit the plots, which led to joey being more and more stupid to balance chandler growing out of his "sarcasm as a defense mechanism" and ross's life revolving around sex to balance the committed monica that was supposed to be the most sex-driven character. And a lot more things that they just had to gradually change so the story could go on for ten years. On the other hand, I don't understand why they just messed up with the time. I mean, by the time Monica was dating "Young Ethan" she was 26, and we can all assume rachel was also 26. We know that she quit being a waitress by the time she was around 28, and worked for bloomingdales for less than a year, because when she turned 30 she had been in Ralph Lauren for at least a year (so she made it from being a waitress to being a MANAGER in less than 2 years, yeah right). When she had Emma, she had already been there for five years, so that means that when Tag asked her for another chance (right at the beginning of her pregnancy) they hadn't seen each other for YEARS? Makes no sense at all.

The year before pilot episode is where Rachel got engaged to Barry, the coffee house is still a bar and Rachel daydreams about hooking up with Chandler, Ross just found out about Carol being gay and Joey moves in (and strips in Monica's apartment).

I can totally forget ALL of the mistakes. Apart from the one after Joey kisses Janine. It’s Christmas, all of the decorations are up in Monica’s apartment, they are hanging out there discussing the routine. Joey kisses Janine and then goes over to Monica’s, the decorations are gone, they’re wearing different clothes but chandler asks when it happens and he said just now and he came over to see them straight away. it's very common for people to change actors for certain roles after the pilot is filmed. the pilot is filmed months before any other episode because it has to go through approval from the station, then test audiences to figure out what changes need to be made to make the show a hit

Listen, I was a huge Friends fan growing up, I've seen every single episode actually probably 100 times. But even factoring in the fact this was before the internet, how do you get such major plotholes such as mixing up birthdays and ages of the characters?!?! They pointed out in the video somehow Rachel was the last of the group to turn 30, but they've also said before Joey is the youngest in the group, and that was the absolute last straw for me, because it also just doesn't make sense on multiple other levels, like the fact somehow Rachel and Monica went to school together, and when they mentioned it in the video it made me think of the montage in the show where everyone is shown at their 30th birthday party, and that whole thing is in an order that makes absolutely no sense in the context of the show! Ross, Chandler and phoebe are supposed to be the same age, and if Joey is the youngest, how was his birthday BEFORE Chandler's birthday? I love friends I grew up watching it but after digging deeper and seeing how deep some of these plotholes really were it made me realize this is just lazy on the part of the writers, I realize it's before the internet but it does not take any effort at all to remember 6 main character's- basically the only ones in the show- birthdays. It really doesn't take much effort at all as a writer to remember that, especially on the biggest sitcom in the entire country, and that boils down to them not actually caring. That bugs me so many people loved this show and they didn't even care enough to remember the age of their own characters.

Another thing about the birthdays in season 3 Rachel says that she doesn't want to still be working at central perk when she's 30 and then Chandler says that it's much better than being 28 and still working there. So if Rachel is 28 in season 3 then she should be 30 in season 5 but she doesn't turn 30 until season 7

there is also the problem, that after chandler and monica got married phoebe and joey destroyed the apartment door and they had to replace it and then in season 10, in the episode where all of the friends miss the thanksgiving dinner that monica made because of their wishes, rachel opens the apartment door with her key that she still owned from when she moved out eventhough it was a new lock

I have another plot hole: When carol was giving birth to Ben: we remember Susan and ross annoying carol so they got kicked out and pheobe locked all herself, Ross, and Susan in a closet. There was a name tag in the closet named Ben which was the inspiration for the name. In the one that could have been, carol didn’t realize she was a lesbian so she never met Susan so Ross Susan and pheobe never got locked in the closet so they never found the name tag

I've been watching Friends during lockdown and when Rachel says to Ross, don't let Phoebe see you have a new apothecary table from Pottery Barn, Ross is shocked that Phoebe likes secondhand furniture only. He's known Phoebe for years at this point, it should be obvious that his good friend only likes thrifted items, esp as this seems to be quintessentially what Phoebe is about. To me Ross should of known this about Phoebe already. I know it's an over sight on the script writers, but stood out to me recently.

I got two more : 1) In S3 Ep11, they show all 7 of Joey’s sisters and all of their first names were Mary. But in S8 Joey introduces a sister named Gina to Rachel, the sister was pregnant. Gina was not amongst the 7 sisters shown in S3 and her first name was also different. Does that mean she is the 8th sister or did they forget she was not there in S3?!. 2) In S3 Ep6, where they all have flashbacks, Chandler and Rachel see each other at central per, which was a bar at that episode, but they fail to recognise each other, Monica introduces Rachel to Chandler as if they didn’t know each other from school. This is an additional issue with the ones existing regarding Chandler and Rachel, who are constantly being introduced 😂

1) They weren't all named Mary. In that episode names mentioned were Mary Angela, Mary Therese, Cookie, Gina and Dina (or could be Tina, which is one also). Then there's also Veronica, but I can't remember if her name was mentioned. :) Mary Angela was the one Chandler kissed. Mary Therese kissed Chandler at their house and told her name then. Cookie punched Chandler, Joey mentioned her name, when giving her permission to punch. Gina and/or Dina was mentioned by Monica and the others when they were trying to remember which one was which.

Okay so apparently the episode took place 1 year before the pilot episode but at the end of the episode Ross reveals his wife is gay. This means from that moment on they were not sleeping together. How is it that she only tells Ross shes pregnant a year after their last intercourse? If this throwback episode was real Ben wouldve been born already when Rachel joins the group.

Another plot hole is that in the first episode of the first season when Rachel brings Paolo to the apartment, no one understands him, because he is italian. They all can't talk to him because he doesn't speak English and they don't speak italian. Except for Joey who is italian too. So he could have talked to him, but doesn't.

You are complaining about Rachel being pregnant for nearly a year. Wait till you watch female characters in Indian TV Serials being pregnant for years without a baby bump. Eg - 1. A woman was pregnant for 18 months and then had a miscarriage. 2. A woman was pregnant for 11 months and went into labour only after her kidnapper shot her right through the stomach( the baby's fine of course. Nothing can happen to the baby). She didn't even have a baby bump until her 7th month. And during these 11 months, she had fallen down the stairs and donated blood to a girl. 3. The girl mentioned in number 2 has a sister who has been pregnant for more than 8 years without any baby bump.

With the age thing, Monica in season one said she was 26. So, because Rachel and her were in the same year, Rachel would have to be 26, 27 or 25. But, she goes through seven thanksgivings (seven years) and then turns thirty, so she had to be 23 in season which isn’t possible

There was a behind-the-scenes feature about the episode with the ink on their faces. The writers did actually debate whether the ink would still be there the following morning or whether it would have faded. Originally there was going to be a joke at the breakfast table where someone points out that Ross still has a bit of ink showing and he gets out a makeup compact, implying that it's faded enough that they can cover it up. Can't remember why they cut it, maybe they thought the audience would just assume it's faded completely by now.

I don't know if anyone's realised about Carols pregnancy with ben because they got divorced a year before the show because it stated it was a year before in The one with the flashback. And in the second episode ross finds out she is pregnant, even though its been a year since the divorce and towards the end of their marriage they were having troubles while Carol discovers her sexuality. So somehow she was pregnant for like a year and 9 months

The one that always gets me is the timeline between Ross trying to hook up with his cousin and when him and Rachel conceive. He supposedly hadn’t had sex in months when he made a move on his cousin. But wasn’t she there for the wedding? She must have received an invite right? Which means he had to of had sex already if the invitations were sent out, because him and Rachel hooked up when putting them together
