oh before I forget again some interesting portal 2 history I experienced: sourcemod eg the thing that allows for more indepth customization tf2/cs:s/l4d2 servers wont touch portal2 because of its increased drm atleast at the time around its original release. if I remember correctly I reached out to them hoping they could make playing the portal2 coop easier then forcing entities to spawn/activate via modifications of I think developer comments. Also atleast at the time to change chells model you needed to invalidate it inside of the vpk by hex editing the file so that the desired files have the wrong extension and the game will fallback to loading the data unpacked.

It's interesting hearing you say that the Source-sphere isn't really researching Portal to the same degree as Half-Life; when the honest truth is just they were for the longest time, but the peak of that activity was some time ago (around 2011-2013). Seriously, around the release of Portal 2's first trailer, all the Source community was talking about was Portal. Portal is really interesting, but we didn't have much in the way of information publicly and things weren't leaking too often - hell, the most we got for a while was information on F-Stop. Half-Life just has a lot more content to pick over out of the box as there's so many games, and the 2003 leak which had enough content in for people to chew over for years. It's nice that more information has been coming out in the last couple years so that people can actually start going into more detail on these games and get a glimpse of the production process and the other oddities such as the Education Edition. Plus, Portal 2 didn't end on a cliff-hanger that left everyone waiting for over a decade, even if we never did get the planned DLCs.

I was more talking about the KZbin Source sphere in this regard, mainly in regards to facts that a lot of the information I talk about and go over in my videos is information that has been floating around for years, but there hasn’t really been any Source engine KZbin channel that has come along and decided to try document some of the stuff there is to say. It’s a bit long winded, but in a nutshell, I’m trying to say that I was shocked that a channel like mine doesn’t exist already, but hey, guess I’m filling that niche now, I’m being the KZbinr my younger self would’ve loved to watch.

But I was sort of trying to say, back around the time when Portal activity was at its peak, this sort of channel wasn't common for *any* game; all of this kinda research and explanation happened on forums. You're right though, it is weird that once this sort of video essay got popular, not too many Portal videos came around.
