Did the hardware come with mounting brackets or did you buy those separately?

They came with the awning but you can buy separate ones depending on what roof rack you have.

What was the reason for downgrading?

I downsized to get a awning thay fit the frame of the FJ. I do sometimes miss the size of the larger awning but enjoy the smaller awning look and less size while on the trail
