osu! - How to read your scores

Since no one else has said this I'll put it here. The blue special notes are called Geki, they are earned by hitting 300s on every note in the combo (mapping term combo, referring to the string of notes sharing the same colour with increasing numbers and arrows drawn between them). The other ones are Katu, which are earned by hitting only 300s and 100s in the combo, the colour of the Katu signifying whether the note itself was a 300 or a 100. Both give a HP boost as stated in the description.

I think it is also important to know that a 100 gives 33,33% acc, a 50 gives 15,66% acc and a miss gives 0% acc, so thinking of a map as a list of numbers, the acc is calculated by summing up all the notes and dividing by their amount (100+100+33+16+100)/5=70% acc

Just so you know : first of all, there is a huge difference between A and S, with A you can only get a half of the max pp from the map,but it doesnt show you, but if you get s you get the max pp you can get, first i tried a map and did it on A it said i got the max amout of pp from it (24) then i did it on S and i got 49. Also one more thing: missing only resets your combo, it doesnt take anything from your score.

It doesn't "deduct" points, but missing won't give you that note's points, and breaking the combo will net you a lower overall score at the end, so it's basically like losing score. That A and S difference doesn't sound right, but I don't know.

i dont know how wrong you are though, when you miss a note you end up getting an A, PP is mostly combo and not score, so if a song has a total of 1129 hit notes, and you miss at 1128, you get an A but still have 99% of the pp the map has to offer.

Xalen PP is based on score, which is why combo is the main factor in getting PP, because combo is the main factor in getting a high score. After that comes accuracy.

Xalen​like i said, the max pp increased when i did it on s, its not like i got 24 because i only got half the pp available, the max pp award changed.

I still don't exactly understand how pp works. I know that it calculates your skill level compared to other players, but what kinds of things does it take into account? Is it map difficulty? Comparison to other players who played the map? I've been playing harder maps and getting A's on them but I have still been at the same ranking for a month now and I don't even know what to do. Also, I see players getting like 600 pp on maps how is that even possible?

I have a problem, I gain exp a lot, I level up within 2-3 weeks but I suck too much rendering me unable to gain that much pp.

It's normal, unless you're particularly gifted you'll always level XP faster than PP. It's the same for me.

What I don’t get is when I do a map and check my osu account and it says the map name and how much pp I got from it for example 30pp but in game it only gives me like 20

in the account stats it says the maximum pp you can get from a map, and the percentage that you actully got, which depends on how well you did.

Is it better to get a higher score on easy levels or a lower score on harder levels?

You probably won't get any pp from either of those so whichever way you prefer. I personally like to do maps I can do well in but aren't too easy and boring

PP stands for Performance Points and is used to define the ranked ladder. To gain PP you need to perform well in any approved map that's high rank enough.

If you actually completed the song it might be a problem with osu! itself or maybe your skin if you are using one.

If it's a complete miss you should be able to notice while playing. Otherwise there might be an infographic at the end of the map but don't quote me on that, haven't played in a while.

Can someone please explain what the numbers that appear once you finish a map are that are just top middle then left a bit and then fade away? I know the green / red one is when your accuracy goes up but what is the white one? Is it the amount of people I have surpassed in Osu rankings by playing the map? Sometimes it just gives me a +1 or -3 but can give me up to roughly +950,000 sometimes. Someone please explain what the hell those white numbers actually mean?
