@@nootics been using rafis skin since i've first saw my eyes on it. was either 7 digit or 600k+ at the time.

There is not such a history behind it. In one of 'memory' streams Rafis mentioned he mixed some skins. If you watch some of his old videos, you can see he used skin known as Cookiezi10. Later he mixed some stuff with the skin he got from another Polish's DT player. EloHere skin looks like Cookiezi23 If I'm not wrong + there are many elements also from Cookiezi's skin like HP bar or something. Tbh it looks like the whole story of this skin is literally mixing of Cookiezi's elements that many players used, so I assume the 2nd DT player that sent the skin to Rafis also had some stuff mixed in it, not sure tho. Also, I believe WubWoofWolf used something similar in 2013 or 2014 and Rafis also mentioned using his skin for a moment in the past, so there are so many question marks at this point :D In the Rafis's Blue Zenith play you can see him using literally close to 1;1 WubWoofSkin in terms of defaults and cursor ;d Why the skin got popular? Simple question, simple answer - It was the only one skin(that time), totally free from combo colors, so your brain didn't really need to focus on colors, which is of course - Very good in terms of getting rid of 'brain lag' and improving reading, since everything looks the same - just a white circle. If you use, let's say - combo colors based skin you can follow color order(as in many EZ skins), but If you have just a white online, then you read every circle individually which is a good way. Also, If you use the 'HDDT 2018' skin with higher gamma, everything seems to be better in terms of visibility(but also all of the quality problems of the skin aka pixelization starts appearing too). Also, worth saying - Rafis was progressing in terms of rank really, really fast. He didn't suffer any 'walls' till top8 and as we know - Hype around person tends to build 'placebo' effect, and because Rafis is such a likeable dude, people wanted to use his skin. Situation has been kinda similar to any of old Cookiezi's skin. Was the skin really that good in general? Not really, because of one simple aspect - QUALITY. Skin was really blurry, full of pixels, big and terrible approach circles so many people couldn't really read it. Tho, it wasn't really a problem for people that got really use to that skin, including Rafis himself that kept playing with it since end of 2014 from what I remember. Many old skins are made in just terrible quality, which in current standards of skins is just unacceptable ;d Still, it's one of the most iconic skins in the history of osu! because of lack of colors AND one more different aspect, which was general brightness of circles and as we know - proper brightness helps a lot when it comes to playing high AR combined with hidden. Nowadays there are many different version of skins on Rafis's github which are much better in terms of High AR performing or overall looking(made in high ress elements).

Edit: Okay, nvm, I just checked WhiteCat. He has 5 1.1k pp plays, 7 1k pp plays, overall 12 1k+ pp plays. Those two aren't challenging him, no matter how hard they try.

-> genetics? a large part??? -> comparing a completely different pp system to the current one means nothing and also equating #100 from 2014 to #20,000 of today makes no sense. comparing people who have many 200s and a few 300s is not the same as Rafis from the time who had quite a few 400s and 300s on much more awkward and rhythmically challenging maps. -> you say he was one of the best DT players in 2015 and then became one of the best all-round players, but you don't bring up any plays other than DT and then say that his other plays from this time weren't noteworthy despite setting some very incredible ones like SOUND OF GIALLARHORN HDHR FC, Forgotten FC, MATZcore FC, and more. -> his Miraizu play wasn't #1 on the map, it was #8. also I wouldn't really call the eight 1/3 snapped notes in the whole map a "section" but that's just me being picky. another side note is that at the time this was the highest star rating FC in the game. -> you start talking about Best FriendS three mod without even mentioning his first FC on the map (615pp) and randomly jump to his 666pp play on it. Rafis wasn't the only three mod player in the game but he was the one who elevated it to longer and harder maps than had ever been played before, I'm not sure that the WhiteCat comparison is apt since you rarely see any of his three mod plays go beyond 3 minutes in length. -> Best FriendS doesn't have "weird bursts and weird overlaps" -> "got a few 500pp plays" but doesn't even mention them. a few of these include the first FC on Blue Zenith, a choke on furioso melodia, and an FC on FREEDOM DiVE. -> this section is really confusing because it's not in chronological order, Rafis' Stella-rium happened before hvick225's Miraizu but the Stella-rium play wasn't even 642pp either so the timeline and pp counts for these are really messed up and you might have mixed up the numbers or even used the wrong plays. -> if this was the only reddit post you could find for this then you need to learn how to use Google. after searching "cookiezi blue zenith" it was the 4th result on the first page and took me less than 10 seconds to find in total. please be more diligent in conducting future research because if the small throwaways like this are so hard for you to find then how can anyone trust you with getting the big facts of the video correct. -> Blue Zenith did not bring Cookiezi to rank #9, it brought him from rank #9 to #7 (source: wayback machine). I don't know why you bring this up when it's just incorrect. -> I mean I wouldn't say that Blue Zenith was trying to send a message to anyone but I guess that's up to interpretation and I'm just nitpicking -> the competition didn't slow down at the time hvick225 became inactive, in fact it ramped up and #1 was passed between Cookiezi and Rafis on an almost daily cycle. FREEDOM DiVE HDHR was the play that set Cookiezi ahead though but Rafis was still able to give him a run for his money for months on end. -> this whole part of the video seems to be more about other players than it is about Rafis, and it feels really weird that you mention so many of other players' plays when you just gloss over Rafis' as just "a bunch of 600pp plays" -> "months of almost no score" ? I have no idea what this is supposed to be talking about? -> so much talk about farming this and that and getting 700s and 800s and trying to get this 800pp play, I understand that pp can be a goal for pp to try and beat but you have to realize that pp isn't everything -> he did not just suddenly get good at streams and "speed streams" after playing Necro Fantasia. he FCd Blue Zenith and FREEDOM DiVE in 2015 like I mentioned earlier as well as getting the second FC on Everything Will Freeze in 2017. I don't know how you could have missed this. His FREEDOM DiVE by Sotarks score is actually very good and belongs here but actually mentioning Sidetracked Day is laughable when comparing his other scores. -> you keep saying that whenever Rafis isn't playing for pp he's "slowing down" or "just playing for fun" but he was definitely playing the game at a competitive level during those times, he just wasn't going for pp necessarily. -> absolutely no mention at all of Everything Will Freeze FC, Big Money HR Pass, or pretty much any scores other than DT and farm maps. no mention of any other three mod plays apart from Best FriendS even though you said that was the niche he carved for himself. no mention of any tournament performances or even the fact that he WON the OWC 2017 with his team. FINAL GRADE: 2/10 This video doesn't do justice to half the player Rafis is because is completely doesn't mention more than half of who he is as a player. Nothing about any scores that weren't worth any pp, no mentions of tournaments at all not even minding OWC 2017, and practically no mention of his skillset beyond high AR and some speed. Along with this there's some factual errors and even chronology is all messed up at some parts.

Cookiezi is the greatest player osu has seen, to the point where I really don't want to consider him as well, a person, but rather, on the verge of being superhuman. Someone competing with him even at his greatest, with freedom dive and remote control plays seems just impossible. The amount of determination, perseverance, and other things you need to dethrone fucking Cookiezi would be too much for anyone else, except Rafis, who did dethrone him. as well as another top player. And this is the story of why I like Rafis more than Cookiezi.

The way you spoke of Cookiezi really made me wonder how you didn't make a video on him yet. Though I wouldn't call him best player of all time anymore, seeing how much better top players keep getting, it is beyond a doubt that he is the most legendary and impactful player there ever was.

@@Excevious We can definitely agree that Cookiezi was insane for his time and still is a top player by today standards, but when I mean best player of all time I don't consider his skill relative to the competition at the time, but try to compare each players skill, when they were playing their best. And even though Cookiezi might still have unmatched displays of skill on certain maps, so do top players today have insane HDHRDT scores he probably couldn't replicate. Edit: The reason why this definition of "of all time" makes sense in this context is simply because of the nature of the game. If we we're talking speedruns for example, where later runners profit off of all the experience and strats that players before them found, it would be a whole different story. But in osu! it's all about building proper motoric skills and executing on them, and this hasn't become any less of a feat over the history of the game.
