This. If you weren't paying attention, you likely didn't know of him. He isn't top 50, and was at the very bottom of the top 100 pool. The fact that someone who had one 950pp play, mixed with a few 700s and a bunch of 600 pp plays suddenly got the top pp play is quite unexpected. This isn't a badeu or fgsky moment, where everyone who has ever looked up top osu players would know that they are contenders for a top play. Until this play, he simply wasn't a household name.

For most people it really came out of nowhere. He isn't top 50, his next highest play is 700pp, and he doesn't have a large social media presence like many other people who are really good at osu!. For most people, this play isn't something they could have expected. It wasn't badeu or mrekk or FGSky, and before this play he had only ever touched the top 100. If you weren't paying attention, you likely didn't know of his existence. Of my friend group that plays osu, only 2 people of around 8 had heard of him, and everyone was surprised. This play is 500 higher than his next highest pp play. For someone to jump 300 pp (from 956 to 1258) isn't something that most people would expect, even if they were paying attention.
